Pitot tubes on the engine are of particular advantage because they are insensitive to contamination and have a very low pressure drop. Additionally, they have a very high dynamic and allow ultra fast mesurements. The truckflow pitot tube is particularly recommended for the measurements of air flow before and after the compressor and the determination of recirculated exhaust gas (EGR).

The truckflow-insertion-probe is an ultra-fast gas mass measurement for the air management to automotive engines. It operates on the principle of differential pressure and is insensitive to deposits such as oil films or particles. A mass measurement for gas according to the differential pressure principle typically consists of a primary element (eg orifice, venturi or nozzle), a differential pressure sensor, a pressure sensor, a temperature sensor and a computing unit that calculates the mass flow or standard volume flow. truckflow combines these five components to the smallest and fastest dp-gas mass flow meter.
TFI4 - the new approch to perfect engine air management
The TFI4 electronics is a sensor system consisting of differential pressure, absolute pressure, and temperature sensors. TFI4 has a processor that analysesand filters the sensor signals and processes the mass flow signal. A CAN-bus provides the connection to an engine controller (ECU) or other computing systems. The TFI4-sensor system was developed for measuring the flow of air intake to an engine, but it offers also other applications such as boost pressure measurement or a p, T-sensor combination. The individual sensors are optimized in a complex calibration process on the individual application. By this the TFI4 sensor system achieves the highest possible accuracy – exactly in the range that is required for your application. Flow and pressure measurements close to an engine are influenced by strong pulsations. The superposition of compressor, valve lifts, EGR injection etc leads to a complex pressure-flow characteristic, depending on the engine map, the aging and ambient conditions (air pressure, air temperature) and other variables. Since pressure and flow are coupled by the energy conservation (Boyle Mayotte), the correct pressure measurement and mass flow calculation becomes a complex task.
