Mechanical Vapour Recompression Evaporators
MVR or mechanical vapour recompression evaporators have been available in the marketplace for some time. The operating principle is based on re-use of the latent heat of evaporation. Water vapour is compressed to create a temperature differential across a heat transfer surface. TAF Industrial Consulting has invented a new method for fabricating inexpensive heat exchangers for MVR type applications, and for recovery of energy from waste steam. The design changes the economics of MVR evaporation: Capital and variable costs are reduced substantially. Apparatus is also simplified. A special type of compressor that is ideal for the chosen operating conditions has been developed and is used in the TAF evaporators. MVR type evaporators produce a condensate and a concentrate.
Evaporate Water
The TAF evaporators can be used for aqueous solutions that do not contain volatile substances. Corrosive solutions can be evaporated if polymeric materials of construction are used. Special temperature control systems are required when this is the case. Dilute (<5% dissolved substances) are usually suitable for volume reduction by evaporation. Resulting concentrates can be further reduced in volume by small second stage evaporators that operate at higher temperatures.
