Temporary Works

Brisbane Airport Roundabout Upgrade

Tony Gee provided construction engineering services for a 650m long elevated dual carriageway to grade separate the roundabout at the entrance to Brisbane Airport. The bridge consists of a twin box girder deck and was constructed using precast segments in balanced cantilever. Our services included the pier formwork, bridge deck segment formwork, geometry control of the precast segments and miscellaneous temporary works associated with balanced cantilever construction. Large portions of the temporary works were reused from the construction of the Gateway Bridge, so Tony Gee designed the modifications required.

Westminster Bridge Fascia Replacemen

The removal of the 14 existing cast iron self supporting fascia arches, which date back to 1862, was the second of three phases in the complete renovation of Westminster Bridge. The highly recognisable decorative spandrels were refurbished and incorporated into new cast iron fascias, all mounted on steel frameworks, preserving the historic face of the bridge. Innovative temporary works solutions designed by Tony Gee facilitated the removal and replacement of the fascias without disruption to bridge traffic. Each fascia was cut and lifted from the bridge by a 110 tonne capacity crane using Interserve’s ‘Tilman’ barge. Once free, the fascia was lowered onto a second barge and secured for transit before being taken away for restoration.
