Vector Magnetics - Casing Magnetization Service
The Vector Magnetics Casing Magnetization Service offers an economical solution to extend the detection range of down-hole casings using Passive Magnetic Ranging techniques. This service is useful in various scenarios, such as preventing shallow blowouts, facilitating detection in extended salt formations where active ranging methods fail, and enhancing well avoidance in densely populated drilling fields. Passive Magnetic Ranging, though technically reliable, often suffers from inconsistencies due to the random magnetic domain distribution in un-magnetized casing materials. By pre-magnetizing selected joints through an electromagnetic coil to saturation and strategically installing them, the service eliminates these uncertainties, ensuring a detectable magnetic field above the background earth's magnetic field. The final field strengths are documented in an installation report provided to customers. The system supports casing of nearly any size and is portable enough for rapid global deployment, facilitated through partnerships with AGR. This service is particularly beneficial in conjunction with high-angle drilling trajectories in shallow reservoirs and high-resistivity zones such as salt deposits, as well as in modern high-density drilling operations where positional accuracy is critical.
