About Us
For more than 60 years, VEGA has provided industry-leading products for the measurement of level and pressure in the process and automation industries, including energy, petrochemical, chemical, oil and gas, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical, mining, plastics, food and beverage, bulk solids, and water and wastewater. VEGA is a worldwide organization with a presence in more than 80 countries.
The inventor of the modern radiometric measurement system and the first to introduce two-wire, loop-powered radar, VEGA has a strong tradition of product development and improvement. Innovations include FiberFlex, the world’s first flexible nuclear detector; plics©, a complete concept in instrumentation flexibility and availability; 80 GHz radar for more precise and reliable level measurements; and ProTrac, a revolutionary change to radiometric measurements.
VEGA Americas designs, manufactures, and sells these products throughout North, Central, and South America and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of VEGA Grieshaber KG, headquartered in Schiltach, Germany. VEGA employs more than 1,500 people around the world, 300 of whom are employed with VEGA Americas.
We believe that future of instrumentation lies in the ability to produce high quality, innovative products that keep pace with technology, and provide service and value to our customers.
History
As an important supplier in the process industry since 1950, VEGA Americas, Inc. has always stood for innovative measurement technology. In 2011, the Cincinnati, Ohio based company was acquired by VEGA Grieshaber KG, a leading process measurement instrumentation company based in Germany.
The story of VEGA shows how two established companies can combine their strengths to achieve international success and open new markets.
VEGA Americas began as “Ohmart” when Philip Ohmart founded the company in Cincinnati in 1950. Ohmart was soon considered the specialist in radiometric instrumentation for level and density measurement in America.
In 1959, thousands of kilometers away in the Black Forest of Germany, Bruno Grieshaber founded an innovative measurement technology company: VEGA Grieshaber KG. This company specialized in the development and production of sensors for measurement of level, point level, and pressure. VEGA placed great emphasis on developing and improving different measurement techniques and has widely been considered the global technology leader in radar level measurements since 1997.
It was at this time when the two companies formed a partnership. Ohmart began manufacturing VEGA-licensed products in North America to offer its customers the benefits of multiple measuring principles. In turn, VEGA benefited from Ohmart's expertise in radiometric technology.
In 1999, the German company acquired a 50 percent stake in its American partner, who then changed its name to Ohmart/VEGA. More than ten years later, Ohmart became a 100 percent subsidiary of VEGA through purchase contract and has been called VEGA Americas ever since.
Global Presence
VEGA employs more than 1,500 people worldwide with nearly half of those people located at its headquarters in Schiltach, Germany. The rest of its employees are spread around the world.
VEGA is active in more than 80 countries with its network of subsidiaries and distributors. The company and its products have all the necessary certificates and approvals for worldwide applications. This applies to the technical safety as well as the quality of the products and services.
