In-Situ Remediation Services

Chemical Oxidation Services

One of the first in-situ methods of environmental remediation after bioremediation, Chemical Oxidation uses powerful oxidizing compounds tochemically treat contaminated soil and groundwater in place, or “in-situ”. When oxidant solutions, such as potassium permanganate or sodium persulphate, are injected into the subsurface, they spread out and react with the contaminants that are present in the soil and groundwater. A chemical reaction occurs thatdestroys the contaminantsby breaking them down and converting them intoless-toxic compoundsand harmless by-products, such as carbon dioxide and salt water. Secondary aerobic bioremediation can then take place due to the highly oxygenated or aerobic conditions created in the aquifer.

Chemical Reduction Services

A relatively recent in-situ method of environmental remediation, Chemical Reduction uses powerful reducing compounds to chemically treat contaminated soil and groundwater in place, or “in-situ”.

Membrane Interface Probe Services

The Membrane Interface Probe (MIP) is adirect-push screening toolwith semi-quantitative analytical capabilities that is used to detect and log the relative concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with depth in soil. The MIP can also detect and log electrical conductivity that can be used to infer soil texture (i.e., clay content typically exhibits a higher conductivity). The MIP was developed by Geoprobe Systems® in the United States (U.S.) and has been used extensively in the U.S., Europe and Canada for mapping the extent of VOC contamination in the subsurface.

Permitting Services

Vertex hasin-house experts for completing and reviewing applications for regulatory permits and plansin provincial, state and federal jurisdictions across North America. Vertex staff work with consultants, the public, legal advisors and regulators to guide site owners and other stakeholders through the regulatory requirements required to implement a remedial action plan for their site.
