Whether we are talking about high-grade service provision or dependable products, at any moment measurements may have to be done, or a measurement engineering infrastructure developed. Do you not have the expertise necessary in house, or do you require the opinion of an expert, independent party? VSL supplies bespoke work for this.

The quality of products and studies is often heavily dependent on the quality of measurements. In production processes, accurate measurement can have an immediate effect on the percentage of rejections and on safety. In measurements whose results are linked to payments, such as for CO2 emissions or the transport of oil, the payer does not want to pay too much, nor does the payee want to receive too little. An accurate, traceable measurement forms the basis for this. VSL, as national metrology institute, provides calibrations with the lowest measurement uncertainties and with traceability to the primary standards.

Manufacturers of measurement instruments calibrate their meters in their own calibration facilities. Of course, the purchasers of a meter must trust the facility and the measurement results. As an independent and internationally-recognised measurement institute, VSL can test the facility’s quality and determine the measurement uncertainties. From this there follows a VSL CMC certificate. CMC stands for ‘Calibration and Measurement Capability’, in other words the best achievable measurement uncertainty of an (almost) ideal measurement instrument under normal operational conditions from a calibration test facility.
