Conceptual and Preliminary Design Planning

Preliminary project planning for any water and wastewater facilities involves the definition of the performance requirements, the selection of the most cost-effective treatment process or equipment type, and laying out the facility to provide for future growth, economy and ease of operation. Water Works Engineers are experienced in a wide variety of technologies, and so do not approach your problem with a cookie-cutter approach. We consider a wide variety of evaluation criteria when recommending an option, and make sure to consider your particular needs. Your conceptual plan will be fully documented to allow detailed design to proceed.

Process Design and Evaluation

Water Works Engineers are experienced in water and wastewater treatment process design using commercial and custom-developed tools: Biowin by Envirosim Associates, Ltd. for evaluating biological process performance for both steady-state and dynamic conditions. Our engineers have applied Biowin to a number of wastewater treatment projects including High Purity Oxygen Activated Sludge, Biological Nitrogen Removal and Biological Phosphorus Removal. MINEQL+ for the modeling of chemical equilibria in aqueous systems, including application to water softening, removal of copper and nickel from wastewater and adsorption of arsenic onto ferric floc. Various Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane manufacturer performance evaluation tools Specialized spreadsheet models for steady-state evaluation of wastewater treatment processes.

Preparation of Plans and Specifications

he preparation of high-quality contract documents for municipal water and wastewater projects not only requires a thorough understanding of the construction and operational implications of various design choices, but also requires the patience to work through the little details of the project. Water Works Engineers offers experienced engineers who ask the hard questions and sweat the details to make sure that the Client is provided with a high-quality project.

O&M Manuals

Water Works Engineers has been preparing electronic O&M manuals since the technology was first developed in the mid 1990"s. Fluid Knowledge, a predecessor company of Water Works Engineers, pioneered several of the concepts still in use by Water Works engineers, including management of O&M content using a database without the requirement of maintaining and accessing a web server. Beyond the technology, we see good O&M manuals as an important means of providing critical information to those who need it the most -- the facility operators. To us, O&M manuals aren"t an extra task at the end of the project.

Information Management

Water Works Engineers are experienced in delivering information management solutions specifically tailored to the water or wastewater system. It has been our experience that the information management challenges for public utilities has less to do with the technology than with the information; the most up to date system will be useless unless it is populated with meaningful data.
