WaterNOx - Nitrogen Removal Filter

The WaterNOx BAF is an advanced nitrogen removal filter designed to service smaller flows with less maintenance and energy consumption than standard submerged filters with backwashing.  The WaterNOx is a variant of the standard biological anoxic filtration denitrification system with external carbon addition for nitrified influent. Designed for ease of use, the WaterNOx is ideal for applications such as campgrounds, truck stops, restaurants, subdivisions, schools and offices where enhanced nitrogen removal is required but constant or complex maintenance is not possible.

Residential Products

Waterloo - Shed Biofilters

Shed Biofilters have a base constructed of permanent wood foundation board, are spray foam insulated for winter operation, and are clad in attractive, stained, weather sealed wood siding. Sheds are designed to work in the most difficult of sites; they are installed above ground to avoid bedrock and high water table problems, and they have the smallest advanced septic system footprint fully approved in Ontario with their compact design and no distribution piping required in the disposal bed.

Waterloo - Flat Bed Biofilters

Waterloo Biofilter Flat Beds are constructed of strong yet lightweight fibreglass shells containing the patented Biofilter filter media.   Flat Bed treatment units are modular; additional Flat Beds can be installed in parallel or series to increase the total treatment capacity of the septic system.  Wastewater is dosed to the Flat Beds via a small pump chamber with an electric or siphon pump (depending on site layout and elevations).  Treated effluent gravity-drains out the bottom of the Flat Beds and flows directly into a disposal bed beneath.

Waterloo - Basket Biofilters

Waterloo Biofilter Baskets are constructed of a rigid steel mesh that is coated for corrosion protection. Baskets are filled with the patented Waterloo Biofilter filter medium, shipped to site, and placed in a concrete or fiberglass tank. Baskets are sized for locally available tanks to reduce costs for the installer and homeowner. Treated effluent is pumped from the Biofilter treatment unit to a small disposal bed, leaching field or trench. Basket Biofilters operate in recirculation mode for increased nitrogen removal. The only moving parts are two high-quality, energy efficient 1/2 horsepower effluent pumps that operate intermittently throughout the day.

Commercial Products

Waterloo - Commercial Basket Biofilters

Waterloo Biofilter Baskets are commonly used for a variety of commercial and high-strength decentralized wastewater treatment applications. Baskets are custom-sized for each individual project based on the design flow, wastewater strength, and locally available concrete. Biofilter Baskets are rigid and strong, yet still lightweight and easy to transport and maneuver onsite. Treated effluent collects in the bottom of the Biofilter tanks and is pumped to disposal or reuse. Recirculation is used to increase the total amount of nitrogen removed and help moderate flows.

Waterloo - Bulk-filled Tank Biofilters

Bulk-filled Tanks from Waterloo Biofilter can be used to efficiently treat sewage wastewaters from commercial, communal, and high strength applications. Local concrete or fibreglass tanks are sourced, modified, and filled onsite with our patented filtration medium. Compared to Basket Biofilters, Bulk-filled Tanks reduce the overall tankage costs, and can be installed in poured-in-place concrete containers. Treated effluent collects in the bottom of the tanks and is pumped to disposal or reuse. Recirculation is used to increase the amount of total nitrogen removed and help moderate flow rates. Bulk-filled Tanks are fitted with a small, low amperage air fan to increase aerobic conditions inside the tank.

Polyethylene Tank Biofilters

The PE-5 Polyethylene Tank from Waterloo Biofilter is a lightweight and modular onsite wastewater treatment unit. These above-ground units come pre-assembled and ready to hook up with minimal onsite labour. PE-5’s are housed in a new or existing maintenance building for year-round use, or can be housed outside in a protected area for seasonal-use applications. Each PE-5 unit can treat 5,000 L/day (1,320 US gpd) of commercial septic tank effluent to tertiary standards (less than 10 mg/L cBOD & TSS).

Nutrient Removal Products

WaterNOx - Advanced Nitrogen Removal Filter System

The WaterNOx™ is an advanced nitrogen removal filter designed to service smaller flows with less maintenance and energy consumption than standard submerged filters with backwashing. The WaterNOx™ is a variant of the standard biological anoxic filtration denitrification system with external carbon addition for nitrified influent. In new installations, the WaterNOx™ follows a nitrifying filter such as the Waterloo Biofilter. An inexpensive, easily digested carbon source is added to aid in the denitrification process. The WaterNOx™ effluent is then directed to a small polishing filter to remove excess organics before disposal.
