Wastewater Treatment Services

Outsourcing Water Treatment

Often called `own-operate` or `build-own-operate`, this describes installations owned and maintained by the service provider, with the equipment installed in your facility or in trailer(s) adjacent to your facility.  Your company is typically billed monthly at a flat rate per thousand gallons of water treated. Contracts typically range from thirty-six to sixty months but may extend up to ten years.

Pilot Testing

Sometimes there are distinct advantages to running a two week to a six month trial of small scale water treatment equipment to collect data and document the performance of the system proposed for full scale implementation.  This is particularly true when water contaminants change because of production variables, season, process upsets, and similar.  Waste streams in particular nearly always exhibit significant variability and are difficult to model, thus making the data collected in a trial critical. Such data can also help build confidence for operations personnel faced with a new technology (e.g., using reverse osmosis for boiler feedwater in lieu of ion exchange demineralization; membrane degasification in lieu of conventional degassifer).

Ion Exchange

The terms ion exchange, deionization and demineralization are often used synonymously to refer to the same process. However, deionization and demineralization may be accomplished by technologies other than ion exchange (see reverse osmosis). Ion exchange is a process used extensively in nuclear facilities, industrial processes and medical and pharmaceutical operations to control the purity and pH of water by removing undesirable ions and replacing them with acceptable ones. Specifically, it is the exchange of ions between a solid substance (called a resin) and an aqueous solution, typically municipal, potable water but it frequently involves process or even waste water (e.g., the plating industry).

WaterProfessionals® Service Option

In some cases, facility maintenance personnel take care of routine day-to-day service and operational maintenance needs of water and wastewater treatment systems but may not have the time or the skill set to thoroughly evaluate system operation vs. design specifications. Turnover or transfer of facility personnel can result in preventative maintenance programs receiving inadequate attention, resulting in expensive downtime and costly repairs. The operational – maintenance survey, typically conducted monthly, quarterly or semi-annually, assures the system is thoroughly evaluated by a qualified water treatment professional on a periodic basis.

Waste Reclaim

A large chemical manufacturing facility was losing a valuable mineral as a waste byproduct. Because of the low concentration of the mineral in the waste stream, it is not recoverable in their process. The facility was washing nearly one million dollars of this mineral down the drain every year. The WaterProfessionals® design and install a membrane concentration system for the recovery of this valuable resource. With the mineral waste now dewatered, the plant recovers and reuses the mineral, resulting in a more profitable and environmentally friendly facility.
