Waukesha Bearings custom engineers each tilt pad journal (radial) bearing to not only handle the required loads but also provide optimum static and dynamic performance. Pad arc, pivot offset, bearing clearance, length of the bearing, and preload are each carefully considered, as they can affect such factors as power loss, temperature and dynamic performance.

ISFD® technology provides highly engineered damping and stiffness to allow exact placement of critical speeds and increase the dynamic stability of rotor/bearing systems. In the patented ISFD design, stiffness and damping are independent of each other and can be precisely controlled. This produces higher and more accurate damping capability than a conventional squeeze film damper and makes ISFD technology a leading solution for controlling vibrations in mainstream and emerging applications. Stiffness and damping are each optimized for the application through rigorous rotordynamic analysis.

With more than 40 years of proven service, Waukesha Bearings vertical assemblies are available in a wide range of sizes and include a variety of innovative design options, including various cooling arrangements, electrical insulation, hydrostatic lift provisions and instrumentation. Proven designs range from large combination thrust and journal bearings for motor-driven reactor coolant pumps used in nuclear power stations, to small, self-contained air-cooled units for LNG pumps. Waukesha Bearings tilt pad thrust bearings, available with or without equalizing links, are designed to transfer high axial loads from rotating shafts with minimum power loss, while simplifying installation and maintenance. Patented design features allow for optimized performance in a variety of applications and address industry-wide challenges such as axial vibration.

Waukesha Bearings horizontal bearing assemblies include highly customized journal or combined journal and thrust bearings designed to interface with an external pressurized oil system or operate fully self-contained. Expertly engineered to meet each customer’s specifications, these horizontal arrangements can be fitted with an external casing or engineered to interface with the customer’s own housing. The extent of supply, including complete hydraulic lift systems, can be varied to suit application requirements and customer specifications.
