On some applications, this filter also facilitates the removal of iron and manganese by raising the pH to enable an iron filter to be used. Occasional back-washing cleans the bed. Over a period of time, additional media may be required. The fill port options on the tanks make it easier for additional media refilling.Get the iron & sulfur out. . . 6200 SXT Iron and Sulfur Filter (ISF)As the water passes through the filter bed, it comes in contact with oxygen-charged man-ganese greensand. This causes iron, manganese and sulfur to oxidize into particles which can be trapped in the filter bed. Eventually the manganese greensand loses its oxygen charge and regeneration is necessary. The filter bed is cleaned, then a measured amount of potassium permanganate is drawn from the feeder through the filter bed, recharging it with oxygen. Two rapid rinses ready the bed to filter your water again.
