February 10, 2009 GA Industries, LLC 9025 MARSHALL ROAD CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA 16066 USA TELEPHONE: 724-776-1020 FAX: 724-776-1254 SAMPLE SPECIFICATION VACUUM BREAKING VALVE FOR CLEAN WATER VBV-CW-990 VACUUM BREAKING VALVES FOR CLEAN WATER 1.0 GENERAL 1.1 Manufacturer shall have a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in the manufacture of vacuum breaking valves and when requested, shall provide detailed product data and descriptive literature including dimensions, weight, capacity, pressure rating, materials of construction and cross-sectional drawings clearly illustrating the individual components. 2.0 PRODUCT 2.1 The vacuum breaking valve shall be normally closed and automatically open to admit air only when the pressure in the pipeline or vessel falls approximately ¼ PSI below atmospheric pressure. The valve shall be of the full water way type providing a flow area through the valve equal to or exceeding the flow area though the adjacent pipe. It shall close and seat tightly when system pressure returns to atmospheric. 2.2 The valve shall have integral flat-faced flange conforming to ANSI B16.1. ANSI Class 125 flanged valves 12” and smaller shall be rated for 200 PSI maximum working pressure, larger sizes shall be rated for 150 PSI. ANSI Class 250 flanged valves 12” and smaller shall be rated for a 400 PSI maximum working pressure, larger valves shall be rated for 300 PSI. 2.3 The air inlet shall be protected by a screened cowl to minimize entry of foreign material. 3.0 MATERIALS 3.1 The valve body shall be cast iron ASTM A126 Class B and have a replaceable ASTM B62 bronze seat. 3.2 The valve shall have a B62 bronze disc (plug) with an easily replaceable Buna-N rubber O-ring seat retained in a dovetail groove without the need for glue or vulcanization. 3.3 The bushing shall be bronze and the internal spring and seat retaining screws shall be stainless steel. The disc (plug) and spring shall be the only moving parts. 3.4 The cowl shall be easily removable and made from steel with stainless steel screen. 3.5 The valve shall be coated with enamel primer. 4.0 MANUFACTURER 4.1 Valves shall be Figure 990-D (Class 125) or Figure 990-U (Class 250) as manufactured by GA Industries, LLC, Cranberry Township, PA USA.
