POWERCLAD® AS Acoust ic Scaf fo ld Sheet ing NOISE ABATEMENT SOLUTIONS Case Study www.powerclad.com Powerclad? is a Trade Name of Industrial Textiles & Plastics Ltd. E&OE. ? Industrial Textiles & Plastics Ltd 2010 DEMOLITION WORKS AT CHAMBERS WHARF, LONDON Introduction The Environmental Act and The Control of Pollution Act requires contractors to use best practicable methods to reduce noise emissions from construction sites. Local Government approvals for construction works are often subject to a range of conditions, not least keeping the environmental impact to a minimum. Such conditions invariably include restrictions on working hours, the use of machinery and noise abatement measures. Approvals are easier to obtain when practical measures to minimise sound levels are included in an application. The use of Powerclad AS Acoustic Sheeting is one such practical measure to minimise noise pollution. Project The project involved the demolition of a number of redundant warehouses on a four-acre site at Chambers Wharf, London, paving the way for a modern eco-development of over 600 houses, offices and shops. Due to the proximity to neighbouring communities, extensive noise monitoring and noise reduction methods were employed including Powerclad AS. A sophisticated system monitoring noise levels in real time meant that the contractor would receive email and text warnings as noise approached a predetermined level. This enabled further preventative measures to be taken in good time before the noise level became a disturbance. Product Powerclad Acoustic Sheeting is a sound-absorbing blanket designed to encapsulate the work environment and reduce the level of noise escaping from the site. It is a heavy weight acoustic foam laminated to PVC coated fabric. Designed for 2.0m lifts, it is produced in 2.2m wide overlapping panels with brass eyelet fastening points through which elastic Powerties attach the sheets to scaffold structures. Powerclad Acoustic Sheeting helps minimise emissions in noise-sensitive environments, typically sites adjacent to commercial or residential areas.
