Asphaltenes are defined as the insoluble fraction in n-heptane and soluble in toluene and represent the heavier and more complex fraction of crude oils, residual re?nery streams, fuel oils or marine fuels.  Asphaltene’s tendency towards precipitation and deposition often causes serious problems in upstreaam and downstream operations :sludge formation, filter plugging and loss of pipes efficiency. To keep the asphaltenes in solution and have a stable fuel, there should be a balance between the fuel and asphaltene aromaticity.
