IMS personnel pride them-selves on the thoroughness and dependability of their services. The cleaning and refurbishing of an emergency vapor scrubber sys-tem requires attention to every system component: internals, piping, nozzles, packing media, pump, fan, instrumentation, and system controls. The system cleaning is carried out in com-plete compliance with Environmental Safety and Health regulations including proper and safe disposal of residual chemicals and acid rinse solutions. IMS’ scope of work includes complete turnkey supply of parts, equip-ment, services, chemicals, tank and totes, waste disposal, and fresh chemical charge. IMS technicians inspect scrubber system internals, replace all gaskets and fan belts, lubricate equipment, and replace all external piping as necessary. The system is nearly restored to the original manufactured condition. A typical acid cleaning of an emergency vapor scrubber system may require two technicians for up to five days. The process includes the following: (1) removing as much of the existing liquid caustic solution as possible and disposing of it, (2) dissolving solids buildup in sump with muriatic acid by continuously adding acid solution, (3) recirculat-ing acidic solution over packing media to dissolve solids buildup in packing, (4) cleaning spray nozzles, and (5) removing the acidic solu-tion and disposing of it.
