THE BEGINNINGS

In 1906, Georg Allgaier founded a company in the southern German town of Hattenhofen. The company produced simple cutting and blanking dies. The progressive development of the automobile was a shot in the arm for the metal processing and metalworking industry.

More than a decade after its founding, Allgaier moved its operations to the nearby town of Uhingen. A decade later, it supplied its first body panel dies on a larger scale to Belgium and France. At the end of the 1920s, the company started serial production of pressed parts for the automotive industry.

ESTABLISHMENT

The company`s founder, Georg Allgaier, passed away just after the end of the Second World War. His family continued to run the company along the lines he had established. In 1948, Allgaier started to produce tractors and threshing machines for agriculture, establishing a new line of business for this purpose.

In the mid-1950s, Allgaier started to manufacture wind energy systems which were used all over the world for irrigation purposes. Two years later, it began manufacturing screening machines for the first time as well: the Process Technology division was born. Demand for tailor-made machines in this sector continued to increase.

INTERNATIONALIZATION

From 1975 onwards, the fortunes of the company were for the first time placed in the hands of a manager from outside the family, Professor Dr. Dieter Hundt. Professor Dr. Hundt joined Allgaier as the sole managing partner. His activity would focus on establishing the Allgaier brand on the international stage. Two years after being appointed, he founded a first production subsidiary based in France. Subsequently, he purchased companies in Schleswig-Holstein, Sweden and Spain with Allgaier.

In the 1980s, a new press shop at the headquarters in Uhingen was constructed plus new buildings for the Automotive and Process Technology company divisions. Allgaier expanded its range by buying the production and sales rights for dryers and coolers from the apparatus construction company, Haag of Vaihingen/Enz, as well as by purchasing the northern German screening machine manufacturer, Mogensen GmbH & Co. KG of Wedel near Hamburg.

In the 1990s, the German company C.G. Mozer GmbH & Co. KG and the Swedish screening machine and sizer manufacturer, Fredrik Mogensen AB, were added to the portfolio. This northern European traditional company had first drawn attention to itself in the 1950s with the invention of the Mogensen sizer. By bringing this Swedish firm on board, Allgaier achieved a decisive expansion of its product portfolio in mechanical and thermal process technology. At the turn of the millennium, Allgaier purchased the Spanish company Gosag S.A., another manufacturer of screening and processing systems in Europe.

FROM PIONEER TO TOP PERFORMER

The former pioneer in forming and process technology has now developed into an international company which successfully sells its products and services all over the world. Sales surged by more than a factor of ten in the period from 1975 to 2017, from the equivalent of EUR 25 m to EUR 455 m. In 2006, Allgaier was employing more than 1700 people and celebrated its 100th anniversary.

In 2008, Dipl.-Ing. Helmar Aßfalg took over management of the company from Professor Dr. Dieter Hundt, and Professor Dr. Hundt was appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

Aßfalg consistently expanded the successful growth strategy that his predecessor had embarked on in the 1970s. In 2009, he founded the Automotive subsidiary, Allgaier de México, in Mexico City. Straight away, it began production of pressed parts and components for the automotive and components industry located in the NAFTA. One year later, the Chinese subsidiary Allgaier Automotive Tool & Die Beijing Co. Ltd. and Almo Process Technology, Inc. in the USA were added.

With these purchases and new foundations, Allgaier has successfully written new chapters in its expansion story and is investing precisely in the markets which promise high growth rates in the future.

INVESTING IN FUTURE MARKETS AND PRODUCTS

In the future too, Allgaier will expand its long-term customer relations, establish itself further as a supplier of sophisticated and high-quality machines and components and invest specifically in future markets and products.

One example that clearly underlines this claim is the foundation of the subsidiary Allgaier de Puebla in Mexico in 2011 – directly on the doorstep of a production site operated by the German Volkswagen Group. On a total area of approximately 7000 sq. m, up to 500 newly hired Allgaier employees will in the future, set about supplying products to the North and Central American automotive market.

Another current example is the foundation of a joint venture with the ICIL company, a former license holder of Mogensen sizer technology in India. With this cooperation, Allgaier would like to expand its comprehensive expertise in process technology and establish itself further in this large internal market.
