Parratt, Project Hydrogeologist, Schlumberger Water Services, Reno, NV Mike Hardy, Water Resources Project Manager, Lumos Engineering, Reno, NVSession Description:Water can be a necessary resource and/or obstacle when it comes to min-eral exploration and mining. While many of the mining and milling processes require large volumes of water, others mining operations require the extract and remove the resource before continue. Because of the importance of this resource, the topic of hydrology has become a critical component in many aspects of mineral exploration and mining. The Mining Hydrology Session plans to address many of the challenges associated with this resource and how these challenges are being resolved in the industry. The topics within mining hydrol-ogy include, but are not limited to, mine dewatering, groundwater modeling. Permitting (Water Pollution Control Permits), potable water, hydrological as-pects of closure, contaminant transport, water rights, water treatment, slope depressurization, and pit lake characterization. Minerals exploration deals with water rights, conveyance, and availability issues. The proposed session will work to bring to center stage the important issues that surround the hydrological as-pects of mining and mineral exploration. With the hydrology topic becoming a very important component within the mining sector, the information will be of value to mining professionals who attend.
