APOLLOApplicationThis range of flowmeters is used for measuringhighly corrosive solutions such as nitric,sulphuric, hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids. Itis ideal for measuring agressive andnon-conductive liquids which have proven to beincompatible with most magnetic andmechanical flowmeters.The long term reliability and stability of theHoverflo make it ideal for both batch andcontinuous process operation.In hazardous areas you can use the flowmeterswith the Apollo IS pick-off coil, approved toATEX II 1 G EEx ia IIC T5. The signal can beused in the IS area or transmitted to the safearea using the intrinsically safe P5 preamplifierand suitable barriers.Principle of OperationThe flowmeter has two turbines connected by acentral shaft. The liquid flows through bothturbines, spinning the shaft whilst it hovers. Thelower turbine has magnets sealed in the rimwhich are detected by the sensor to generatepulses. The frequency of the pulses isproportional to your flow rate.InstrumentationThe signal can be used for a local display,remote display or converted for transmission toa separate control system. Apollo have a rangeof instruments to suit all your requirements.ConstructionAll wetted parts are either PVC or PVDF for maximumchemical resistance. The seals are PTFE or viton.The meter combines the advantages of a turbineflowmeter without the problems of bearing wear.CalibrationAll Apollo flowmeters are individually calibrated withwater and are traceable to national standards.We provide you with a test certificate for each metershowing the number of pulses per litre, which is usedto set the instrumentation.InstallationThe flowmeter is installed horizontally in the pipeline.To reduce turbulence and achieve the best resultsfrom your flowmeter we recommend that you install itin a straight section of pipe with at least 10 pipediameters upstream and 5 pipe diametersdownstream.Control valves should be installed downstream of theflowmeter.The flowmeter must be kept full of liquidand reverse flow must be avoided.An amplifier is required if you need to transmit thesignal more than 4 metres, or if there is an electricallynoisy environment close to pumps, solenoids,switchgear or high current cables.Intrinsically safe systems always require an IS pick-offcoil.
