B-GON™ MIST ELIMINATORS

B-GON™ MIST ELIMINATORSPRIVATE ? KON-TANE® SCRUBBER and TOWER PACKINGB-GON™ Mist Eliminators and KON-TANE® Scrubber and Tower Packing are made from a uniquely interlaced monofilament structure developed and patented by KIMRE, INC. and have the following characteristic features:1. Filament structureThe filament structures consist of thermoplastic monofilaments which have been interlaced to form a three-dimensional ladder-like arrangement with repetitive right-angle intercepts and achieve maximum droplet and particle removal by impaction and interception.Since the monofilaments are aligned at right angles to the direction of flue gas flow, maximum efficiency and minimum pressure drop is assured. Thanks to different void fractions and monofilament diameters, very large liquid loadings can be successfully handled.2. CompositionB-GON™ Mist Eliminators are custom-made for each individual project, using the specified operating conditions. They consist of usually several styles, or coarseness, of the unique media to provide a variety of benefits in one pad--high efficiency, high liquid handling, and low pluggage potential. These mist eliminators are, additionally, extremely easy to modify during operation since individual layers can be taken out or more can be added, as required. These are advantages not offered by competitive products, most of which are available only in standard types.3. Materials of ConstructionsThe monofilaments can be made from PETP, PP, HT-PP, PVDF-Kynar®, PFA-Teflon® and ETFE. This means that a suitable material of construction is available whatever chemicals are present in the flue gas, and for temperatures up to 400°F (204°C).4. Removal efficiencyThe various monofilament layers {diameter of the finest monofilament media: 2/96 is approx. .002 inches or 0.05mm; diameter of the coarsest monofilament media 62/96 is .062 inches or 1.6mm} can be combined within the mist eliminator pad in such a way that even droplets or solid particles with a diameters of >1 µm can be eliminated with a removal efficiency of 99.9%. Mist eliminators to handle any required particle size range can be assembled without any problem. In the case of fine droplets or aerosols, it is necessary to use at least a two-stage separator, including a coalescing stage, or an AEROSEP® Multi-Stage Aerosol Separation System. This type of separation system is ideal for coalescing extremely fine aerosols.5. Pressure dropBecause of the special structure in which the monofilaments are arranged perpendicular to the gas flow, it is possible to achieve -by thermal stabilization - a void fraction of between 94 and 97%. This only slightly hinders the gas stream so that the pressure drop will be very low: i.e. low energy consumption and high removal efficiency can be achieved together.6. Typical applicationsStructured packing marketed under the name KON-TANE® Scrubber and Tower Packings, can be used in gas scrubbers and absorption towers. KON-TANE® packing is particularly effective in cross-flow (horizontal) scrubbers. The following advantages are additional to those already mentioned for the KON-TANE® Scrubber and Tower Packing media (and B-GON™ Mist Eliminators):Void fractionSince the void fraction and fiber diameter of each layer of our materials can be set individually, solid particles can be separated stagewise according to size. This effectively reduces the risk of clogging to an acceptable minimum level or prevents clogging altogether.CleaningUnlike ordinary tower packings, these monofilament packings can easily be installed in pads which can be taken out if they have become clogged, e.g. by crystallized salts, and can then be cleaned with compressed air, water or solvent.Packing weightBecause of their light weight - 1.7 to 3.4 #/ft3 (27-55 kg/m3); depending on the void fraction and the material used, no heavy-duty support grids are necessary.Specific surface areaEspecially important for absorption columns is the very high specific surface area of the different types of packings - for the very finest monofilament packings, type 2/96, it is 750 ft2/ft3 (2500 m2/m3) and for 8/96 still 190 ft2/ft3 (620 m2/m3) - this being an enormous advantage as it is approx. 3 to 4 times higher than for conventional packings. Thanks to the larger mass transfer area, the packing height can generally be reduced by at least 50-60% compared with conventional packings. This is particularly useful to add transfer units to an existing tower.P.O.
