These tests were to show ifUGA’s cable bushings type KD 85,KD 110, KD 150, BKD 150 and sys-tem KSS are gas- and watertight.A special test specimen consistingof a concrete part and a test bellwas developed for this test. Thecorresponding sealing collar wasimbedded into the concrete partwith a waterproof concrete. Thesurface of the concrete part wassealed as this test was to reveal thebonding characteristics of the seal-ing collar to the concrete and notthe tightness of the concrete itself.All test specimens proved success-ful in the tests for gastightness,presswater tightness and press-water tightness at low tempera-tures.Three system covers of each sys-tem were tested: the blind cover,the system cover with one connec-tion piece and the system coverwith three connection pieces.In the presswater tightness test atlow temperatures, only the systemcover with three connection pieceswas tested.In the shock wave test, pressurewas increased until the covercollapsed.In the helium test the specimenswere checked for gastightness. Inthis test, the partial pressure ofhelium in the atmosphere directlyafter the experimental set-up is togive conclusions about the leak-age rate of the system.In the test for presswater tightnessat low temperatures the speci-mens were checked for presswatertightness (with a water / anti-freeze compound solution) at extremely low temperatures for a period of 24 hours.Due to the closeness of systemBKD 150 to system KD only systemcover BKD 150-D3/60 of systemBKD 150 was subjected to thehelium gastightness test and thepresswater tightness test at lowtemperatures as an example.The obtained results confirmthat systems BKD 150 and KDare excellent sealing systemsand exceed the values deman-ded for practical purposes byfar.? gastightness with air at a pressure of 1 bar? presswater tightness at a pressure of 5 bars? gastightness with helium at a pressure of 5 bars? presswater tightness at low temperaturesat a pressure of 5 bars at -27°C / -25°C.? shock wave test (destructive test)?
