Combined, they provide theoperators and their crews with a vehicle option that offersoutstanding manoeuvrability and performance, withunprecedented levels of crew safety and comfort.Compatible with both the Dennis Eagle body range andthose manufactured by other refuse collection vehicle bodysuppliers, the Elite chassis cab remains the lowest entryoption in today’s global marketplace. This concept wasintroduced as a response to a demand for a walk throughlow-step cab to eliminate the need to climb up and downfrom the traditional ‘day’ cabs. The aim was to reduce thepercentage of leg and back injuries, common to the wastemanagement industry at the time.Add to the appeal of this all important facet of the Elitechassis, a diverse and equally impressive range of axle andpowertrain configurations and it becomes clear to see whyDennis Eagle has every sector of the refuse collectionindustry covered.Purpose designed for the toughest of duties, the Elite 2 isan evolution of the Elite chassis with low-entry cab, firstlaunched in 1992 specifically for municipal and wastedisposal / recycling operations.With varying operations in mind, Dennis Eagle have deviseda range of configurations from 4x2 through 6x2 Mid Lift,Mid Steer and Rear Steer chassis through to 6x4 DoubleDrive, with GVW’s from 18 tonnes to 26 tonnes which canbe further adapted by a choice of options.Chassis width is 2250mm in Narrow Track or 2550mm inWide Track form, with wheelbases from 3250mm throughto 6200mm (overall axle spread). Once inside, the nitrogen oxides arethen converted and released as harmless nitrogen gas andwater. This process, when combined with other technicalmodifications to the engine, also enables SCR tosignificantly reduce emissions of particulates. Because SCR functions as an after-treatment, it does not conflictwith fuel combustion optimisation or other engineefficiency gains.The EU is gradually introducing stricter new emissions regulationsfor heavy duty trucks and buses. The next level of emissionlegislation has been implemented in 2006 with the introduction ofEuro 4 in which emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulates willbe reduced by 30 and 80 percent respectively. In 2009 Euro 5 willcome into force which requires emissions of nitrogen oxides to bealmost halved compared with Euro 4.Greater Engine Efficiency.Quieter and Cleaner operation.The Volvo D7E electronic management system (EMS),combined with common rail fuel injection and VolvoSelective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) exhaust gases improvesdriveability, short and long term operating economies.In addition to proving quieter operation on-road vehicle application.Driveability is improvedgreatly with a wider powerband and is configured withthe new 6 speed MD3000series 4th GEN gearbox from AllisonThe new Volvo D7E 7 litre in-line six diesel sits at the leading edge of advancedcombustion technology. These too willfocus on further enhancing driver and crew comfort.ALL NEW FEATURESWith the overall design layout emphasis centring on clean,smooth and uncluttered lines with less visible fixings,accessibility, space and the walk through capability remains optimised.Visually, one of the most striking improvements is acomplete new full width dashboard moulding thatnot only incorporates a more advanced and clearly laid outinstrument cluster and shroud, but which houses anintegrated CANbus display monitor. The CANbus is currentlydeployed to control all of the Phoenix 2’s functions,including pack-on-the-move. Future development will coverchassis system operation.From the driver’s viewpoint, the Elite 2 cab now comes witha standardised air suspension seat that features a revisedtrim design for improved aesthetics and comfort. Thesteering column features a new toggle clamp that supportsits weight during adjustment, and a new shroud. Furtherergonomic dashboard improvements see the introductionof rocker switches that have been banked for clarity andease of operation, and a new driver heater control interfacecomes as standard.Improvements have also been made to the door mouldingsof the Elite 2, which have been redesigned to includeadditional storage space for bottles and even note pads.Last but not least, crew and driver comfort has been furtherimproved following the introduction of changes to theducting and air management distribution system. Inaddition to new style side demist ducts, a new air canal hasbeen incorporated to optimise airflow.
