The CHEMFREE 2000 “S” series is equippedwith a manual device for adjusting the air ve-locity to obtain the appropriate air velocity foreach specific contaminant used. The CHEMFREE 2000 “M” series is equippedwith a microprocessor based monitoring system. Each unit has a liquid crystal display to showthe face speed and a digital setting system toselect the most suitable velocity for each speci-fic contaminant used.FILTRATIONA wide range of filters is available, from activa-ted charcoal adsorbing filters to chemical ad-sorbing filters for specific applications such asthe use of formalin, gluteraldehyde or radioac-tive iodine labelled compounds and for othersapplications. The filters (for “M” series) have a built in mi-crochip device for their manage control. The CHEMFREE 2000 60 unit incorporates acarbon filter which weighs approximately13÷21,5 Kg., the CHEMFREE 2000 90 unitincorporates two carbon filters with a total wei-ght of approximately 18÷28,8 Kg. and theCHEMFREE 2000 120 unit incorporates two car-bon filters with a total weight of about 26÷43 Kg. Each fume cupboard is equipped with disposa-ble type prefilters, with an efficiency of75%÷85% dust weight arrestance (ASHRAE)to protect the main activated charcoal filter.CHEMFREE 2000 “S”? High level of protectionfrom toxic vapours? High level of filtration efficiency? Large adsorption capacity? Filter monitoring systems? Ductless? Low costFOREWORDFaster have designed and manufacturedCHEMFREE 2000 fume cupboards using thelatest molecular filtration technology. This provides a safe working enviroment to-gether with fume containment for protectionfrom chemicals, vapours and aerosol in the la-boratories.CHEMFREE 2000 fume cupboards are availa-ble in two different versions:? Current directives of the European Communityare also covered as certified by the CE mark.TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONSCHEMFREE 2000 “S” is designed to meet allthe routine safety requirements encounteredby both the operator and the environment th-rough the use of chemicals reagents. Units are equipped with a manual device to setthe inlet air velocity when heavy or volatilechemicals are used and are supplied with fluo-rescent lighting. CHEMFREE 2000 “M”? Microprocessor controlledmonitoring system? Higly effective protection from toxic vapours? High filtration efficiency? Large adsorption capacity? Filter monitoring system? DuctlessGas/vacuum taps, power points and gas detec-tors for monitoring filter efficiency are sup-plied as options.CHEMFREE 2000 “M” is designed with a micro-processor controlled system for a range of datawhich includes type and code number of the fil-ter being used, installation date, maximum timeallowance for filter use and a warning date forits replacement. Built in with five different lan-guages like italian, english, german, french andspanish. Audible and visual alarms are also avai-lable to protect the operator. These alarms cover out of range minimum andmaximum air velocity, filter saturation, prefil-ter clogging, anemometer failure, gas detectorfailure and motorfan malfunctioning.CHEMFREE 2000 “M” is equipped with fluore-scent lighting as well as optional gas/vacuumtap and power point.CONTROL PANELS? Pre-filter efficiency is equal to 75÷85% dustweight arrestance (ASHRAE).b) MAIN FILTERSEight types of filter media are available. Most of these are impregnated activated car-bon, to provide a higher filter capacity forlower molecolar weight organic compoundsand inorganic gases and vapours. A number of filter efficiency studies have beencarried out, and all results using single bed fil-ters show efficiencies very close to 100%.1. A/C FILTERThe A/C filter is the most widely used filter inthe range, and is used primarily for solvent fu-me removal. It is manufactured from coconut-shell basedactivated carbon of 4 x 8 USS mesh size andsurface area up to 1050 m2/gm.Filtration is achieved by the physical adsorp-tion of molecules in the pores of the activatedcarbon by Van der Waals forces. The filters used in the fume cupboards are ma-nufactured from high grade coconut shellcharcoal. All types of activated charcoal used in these fil-ters are of amorphous structure obtained fromthe heat controlled oxidation of coconutshells. The cellulose structure of the coconuts provi-des the highest adsorption efficiency through alarge surface area of up to 1050 m2/g.ACTIVATED CHARCOAL FILTERSLABORATORY L INECHEMFREE 2000ADSORPTION INDEX TABLEAdsorption index table of standard activated charcoal filters (A/C) as to various chemicalsThe “adsorption Index” is expressed as percentage of weight of adsorbed contaminant/ weight of charcoal in the filter bed.In partucular:A) Compounds against which the activated charcoals show a high filtration capacity (from 20% to 50%, mean value equal to 35%)B) Compound against which the activated charcoals show a good filtration capacity (from 10% to 25%, mean value equal to 16%)C) Compounds against which the activated charcoals have a poor filtration capacity (less than 5% but anyway suitable for some applications)D) Compounds practically not adsorbed by activated charcoals under standard conditionsSULPHURCOMPOUNDSALIPHATICHYDROCARBONSA.A.A.A.A.BenzeneEthyl BenzeneNapthaleneTolueneXyleneD.C.C.D.A.A.D.D.A.A.B.B.D.A.A.A.B.C.C.AcetyleneButaneButeneButadieneCyclohexanen-DecaneEthaneEthylenen-HeptaneHeptyleneHexaneIsopreneMethaneMetyl Cyclohexanen-Nonanen-OctanePentanePropanePropeneA.B.A.Methyl CyclohexanolMethanol (Methyl)PropylB.A.A.B.A.A.A.A.B.A.C.Carbon DisulphideDimethyl SulphateEthyl MercaptanHydrogen SulphideMercaptansMethyl MercaptanPropyl MercaptanSulphur CompoundsSulphur TrioxideA.
