Microsaic Systems plc is a high technology company developing and marketing next-generation mass spectrometry (MS) instruments for the analysis of gaseous, liquid and solid samples. Microsaic’s MS systems are much smaller, consume less energy, and have lower running costs than conventional instruments. This has been achieved through the development of a series of miniaturised, chip-based components called ionchip, spraychip and vac-chip. The Company’s first product to incorporate this technology, the Microsaic 3500 MiD, was launched in January 2011 and is the world’s smallest commercial MS instrument capable of being coupled to standard liquid chromatography (LC) systems. The product won a 2012 R&D 100 award from an independent judging panel and the editors of R&D magazine.
