1992, in Athens – Greece, and specialises in the provision of environmental engineering and consulting services. EPEM has developed an international “Network of Partners” consisting of experts of all disciplines in the environmental field and has offices in Athens, Bucharest and Balikesir (Turkey). EPEM has the technical capacity and experience that place us among the most active environmental consulting firms in the industrial sector, both in Greece and in the region of the Balkans and the eastern Mediterranean Sea. EPEM follows a strictly confidential policy concerning the names of its private clients and the projects that has elaborated on their behalf. For this reason we do not quote the specific industrial groups and the facilities that we collaborate with. We have worked with more than 100 industrial facilities in Greece and abroad. Moreover, we have permanent cooperation with 7 of the 20 largest processing industries in Greece (according to the ICAP ranking). EPEM’s clients consist of industries from the following sectors: • Production of energy (fossil fuels and renewable sources) • Production of iron and steel • Production and processing of non-ferrous metals • Production of chemicals • Production of cement • Production of ceramics, lime and glass • Textiles • Livestock farming • Food and beverages 19 The services that EPEM provides include: Incorporation and implementation of the environmental legislation: EPEM has participated in the incorporation and the planning of the implementation of the European environmental legislation in Greece and in the Balkans. EPEM has worked together with the respective environmental Ministries for the integration of the most important European Directives, such as the 96/61/EC (IPPC), 96/82/EC (SEVESO II), 97/11/EC (EIA), 99/13/EC (VOCs), 2003/87/EC (emissions trading) etc. Environmental permitting: EPEM offers the full range of the required studies concerning the environmental permitting of the industrial facilities, in Greece and abroad. EPEM offers an integrated approach to the elaboration of each project, from preliminary environmental impact assessment studies up to waste management studies and safety plans. The project team, in cooperation with the client, develops a holistic strategy aiming at the optimization of the environmental performance of the facility, taking into consideration the social and economic conditions. Design of environmental infrastructure: EPEM undertakes the design of environmental infrastructure for industrial sites, with emphasis on temporary storage and final disposal of industrial and hazardous waste and wastewater treatment plants. EPEM has the appropriate human resources in order to ensure the successful elaboration of each project, from the initial planning and permitting up to the technical supervision of the completion of the works. Environmental management: EPEM has the experience in developing environmental management systems according to the EMAS and ISO 14001 standards. Dissemination of information: EPEM offers several publications on the environmental liabilities of industrial facilities. As of the beginning of 2007, EPEM started the periodic issuance of a newsletter concerning the recent developments of the national and European environmental legislation, which is sent free of charge to all our clients. Moreover, EPEM undertakes the task to inform and train its clients on specialized issues that concern specific industrial sectors. Research and development: EPEM invests, on a constant basis, in R&D programs. We have recently concluded: • The first Life Cycle Analysis in Greece (management of waste lube oils). 20 • The development of software for the selection of the environmentally suitable Best Available Techniques, on an industrial sector level, in order to enhance the sector’s environmental performance and to minimize the implementation costs. • The development of software for the monitoring and reporting of greenhouse gases emissions. Our software is capable not only to calculate the emissions, but also to develop carbon management scenarios on a facility level, in order to minimize the costs for the industry. • The development of software for the estimation of the pollutant emissions on a facility level, based on emission factors. Our software is used for the environmental reports of the IPPC installations, in the framework of the European Pollutant Emissions Register (EPER) Decision.
