Tomatch this demand, modern waste processing plants areneeded. The state of art allows a full automatic and highefficient waste sorting and recovery of reusable materialfrom almost all kinds of solid waste. But only good ideas, powerful technology and experience make it possible towork out solutions which get the best out of the rest.AMB offers what you need. We are producing plants andmachinery for the waste management and disposal indus-try since 1989, and we solved every problem until now.Tell us what you want – together we will get it out.AMB factory in Oschersleben03COMPANY04This is how you get it outAMB is specialised in plant- and machinery engi-neering for the disposal and recycling industry. And here one thing is valid: Every task needs aspecific solution. Our products provide a solution which offersour customers a maximum amount of usability, reliability and efficiency. No matter if it is a new processing plant or theoptimisation of existing plant technology, everyAMB plant is planned individually. Our experienced project engineers not only workout the plant design, but will also be available forsupport during production and installation, untilthe entry into service takes place successfully. There’s a lot in itAs different as the demands of prepara-tion and sorting can be, as different arethe allegations for the realisation of eachplant. Planning and projecting by AMBis always accomplished in narrow coope-ration with our customers.Model of a mechanical-biological plant for residual wastePLANNING AND PROJECTINGPLANNING AND PROJECTING 05Projecting3D presentation of a mechanical-biological waste treatment plantLayout of a sorting plant for pasteboard, paper and cardboard3D presentation of a sorting plant for pasteboard, paper and cardboardEfficient machines, designed and produced by AMB,are the basis for plant engineering and construction. Our product range as a technology base, connectedwith our know-how obtained in a lot of references, make it possible to offer contemporary solutions asa reaction to the permanent changes in the waste-and disposal industry.Solid engineering gets it outThe competence of AMB, the result of yearsof experience in engineering, concentrateson the core components:· shredder technology for pre- andsecondary shredding· separation and mixing technologyfor splitting and preparation of thewaste streams· conveyor technology for transportof the different waste classes06View of a tool shaftENGINEERINGPre shredders ENGINEERING 07Each tool shaft is equipped with a planetary gear and ahydraulic adjusting motor. The drive is connected with aPLC control, which has pre-selectable programs, that arespecifically (and regarding the type of waste) optimised. When shredding with a fixed middle comb, the tools areinserted against each other in rugged tool shells. In normaloperation mode the material is shred against the middlecomb, in the reversing mode against the side combs. When a rotating comb shaft is used, both shafts rotatecontrary in normal operation mode, but with differentspeed. The shaft with the lower speed has the same roleas the middle comb then. In the reversing mode shreddingis done on the side combs, too.Massive contraries, which could cause blocking of themachine, can be removed mostly automatic by an dis-turbance material exit on the side.Double shaft shreddersMobile double shaft shredder series 600Tool system rotating comb shaftStationary double shaft shredder series 700How they workThe speciality of all AMB two shaft shredders is the re-versing process of the individually driven shafts, which iscontrolled by a PLC. During an idle run or when the loadlimit is reached, one or even both shafts switch theirrotational direction and continue working in opposition.· slow- and counter-rotating tool shaftsin different lengths· one planetary gear and one hydraulicadjusting motor· reversing process is controlled byprogrammable logic controller (PLC)· tool system with inserted and weldedtools· available as stationary type (electro-hydraulic) with separate drive unitsand as mobile type (diesel-hydraulic)Secondary shredders ENGINEERING 08· slow-rotating with cutting rotor in different widths andsieve basket with different mesh apertures· hydraulically driven feeding unit· electronically and hydraulically controlled overloadprotection· screwed pocket system of block blades and blade holders· available as stationary type (electro-hydraulic) withseparate drive units and as mobile type (diesel-hydraulic)How they workBelow the hopper a hydraulic ram unit feeds the input tothe rotor, which is equipped with block blades. The rotorshreds the material against a solid stator blade and alsomoves the material in a rotary movement. A sieve basketunder the rotor defines the grain size of the output. Thesieve unit pivots hydraulically. So that it can be changedeasily and allows quick access to rotor and tools. The driveis connected to a PLC control, which has automatic pro-grams optimised for specific kinds of waste. Alternativeto this the pusher and the rotor can be controlled manually. The screwed block blades, made of a special tool steel, can be used up to four times and are fixed with separateblade holders.Mobile single shaft shredder for recyclable woodRotor with block bladesStationary single shaft shredder series 300Single shaft shredders09Separation and mixing technology ENGINEERINGInterior view of a drum sieveStationary drum sieveHomogenising drumHomogenising drumsStationary homogenising drums mix pre-treated waste types and prepare them forthe following biological treatment.Different sizes allow the individual adap-tation to optimise the throughput and thematerial remains in the machine.Solid and generously designed drives pro-vide high availability even at low rotationspeeds. The feeding with a spiral conveyorensures a mostly closed drum entry, whichimproves the addition of sewage sludge orseeping water.Stationary drum sieve machines separate theinput volume flow into different output fractions. The project specifications, like kind of waste, throughput and sieve grain define the type andsize of AMB drum sieve machines. The productrange spreads from one-piece drum bodies withone or more mesh apertures to drum bodiesin a solid frame construction with changeablesieve plates.Solid steel plate housings with convenient main-tenance openings, closed chutes and connec-tions for dust exhaust reduce the dust and noiselevel to a minimum.Drum sievesSeparation and mixing technology ENGINEERING 10Multi fraction separator for mechanical residual waste treatment Multi fraction separator without housingMulti fraction separator for household wasteThe light and areal fraction mainly consists of paper, plasticfoils, textiles, cardboard etc., while the heavy and roundfraction mostly consists of metals, stones, wood, rubber, plastic bottles, glass etc..The mesh aperture of the sieve tub has changeable sieveplates, which make it possible to separate additional ma-terial in a selectable grain size as a fine fraction.· eccentrically mounted, one-piece sieve tub withdifferent mesh apertures· two drive shafts with one motor each, controlledby frequency converter· steel plate housing with big service openings andconnections for dust exhaust· air support to enhance the ballistic separationprocessHow they workThe pre-treated input material is fed in the middleof an inclined sieve tub, which rotates circularlyaround two eccentric shafts. The drive consists oftwo electric motors, which have a common frequen-cy converter to achieve synchronism. The motorsand the bearings of the shafts are positioned out-side of the waste flow, so that the minimised dustload extends the maintenance intervals and there-fore the maintenance costs.Multi fraction separatorsThe rotation around the shafts generates a jolt-ing effect. In combination with the adjustableinclination of the sieve tub, different movementdirections are caused according to physical at-tributes of the waste material. Light and arealpieces climb up in movement direction, heavyand round pieces move down against the move-ment direction.11Conveyor technology ENGINEERINGChain-guided conveyors have a very sturdy construction,in which the belt is moved by a fixed connection betweensupport ledges and chain, which runs over chain wheels. In the drum-guided conveyor, the tensed belt runs over adrive- and a redirection drum.Years of experience led AMB to an own, proved modularsystem. Target is a low vulnerability to failures and there-fore a high availability of the whole plant. At the same timethe modular construction with mostly standardised andscrewed elements provides a high flexibility for comingupgrades or rebuilding. Main feature here is a closed sup-port frame in different construction heights with openingsfor service purposes.Drive- and redirection segments with their tense stationare adapted in different lengths, just like the height of thematerial guiding ledges and the side sealing of the belt. The target of AMB is to provide the matching conveyortechnology for every kind of waste.Feeding conveyor as roller chain conveyor under floorHand-over point conveyor technologyFeeding conveyor as plate belt conveyorThe conveyor technology, developed and produced byAMB, is designed especiallyfor the function of transpor-ting different types of waste:· residual waste like house-hold- and bulky waste· mixed waste like industrialwaste and recycling wood· waste from separatecollections like lightpackaging, pasteboardpaper, cardboard, biowaste or compostThese heterogeneous typesof waste make demand of thehigh standard conveyor tech-nology, which must providedifferent basic functions:· feeding conveyors, underand over floor· conveyor, upward conveyor, sorting conveyor etc.Technically, this demandscan be realised with differ-ent types:· chain-guided conveyorslike roller chain conveyorsor plate belt conveyors· drum-guided conveyors likesliding-bottom conveyor andcarrying roller conveyorChain-guided and drum-guided conveyorAMB offers to the customers of the disposal industryextensive performances starting with the planningand projecting up to the realisation of the wholeplant. The mechanical treatment concentrates on thedevelopment and assembling of the core compon-ents of sorting and treatment plants like grindingmachines, separation and mixing technology aswell as conveying technology, steel constructionand PLC-control. At the biological procedure plantengineering for aerobic and anaerobic wastetreatment are the focus point.A wide range of references in Europe underlinethe competencies of AMB in building sorting andtreatment plants today and in the future, flexibleand economical in a way that makes it possibleto making the best of the rest.12The whole rangeof AMB is specialized in sorting and treat-ment plants for different types of waste:· Light packaging· Plastic bottles· Mixed construction and industrial waste· Cardboard, paper, cardboard packaging· Domestic and bulk waste· Residual derived fuel· Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA)· Organic wasteMechanical treatment of houshold and bulky wastePLANT ENGINEERINGSorting plant for light packagingSorting plants PLANT ENGINEERING 13NIR-separators with a combined material and col-our identification guarantee a high sorting quality. The purity is achieved by a cascaded sorting chainof positive and negative sorting of the desired frac-tions. The optimisation of the profit can be realizedby purification of the residual streams. The target fractions are controlled manually after-wards in order to extract non-beverage-bottles andother parts of the same material. In the first step large pieces of cardboard, foil, non-packaging made of similar materials and large ex-traneous materials are removed in the pre-sortingstep. Separation technology like drum sieve ma-chines and multi fraction separators separate theinput volume flow into various fractions. In additional processing stages recyclables likeferrous and aluminium can be separated by usingFe- and NF-separators. For the light film fractionair separation systems are appointed.Optical sorting systems with automatic dischargeseparate fractions like tetrapack, paper, films anddifferent kinds of plastic like PET, HDPE, PS and PP.The final quality control takes place as a manualcontrol. The recyclables are baled and brought tothe reprocessing.Sorting plant for plastic bottlesPlastic bottlesIn preceding sorting plants light materials are separatedin that way that the material stream plastic bottles is al-ready enriched on a high level with the target fractionsPET-clear, PET-light blue, PET green and PET.A combination of machinery for perforation and screeningas well as conveying technology for equalization and iso-lation optimizes the presentation of the material streamsfor the optical separation systems.Light packagingThe charging of the material occurs according to the col-lection principle by bag openers or underfloor conveyers. The essential sorting consists of an combination of suc-cessive turned mechanical processes and manual controlafterwards.Sorting plants PLANT ENGINEERING 14Industrial wasteIf the target is an efficient sorting, mixed constructionand industrial waste or bulky waste have highrequirements for the plant manufacturing.A process combination of grinding, separation andconveying technology have to comply the demandingtask to separate the material streams.Downstream visual identifying systems divide the differentrecyclables fully-automated. On a high level of through-put economical output in combination with high puritiescan be realized. The manual follow-up control for the quali-ty assurance takes place after the upstream mechanicaltreatment. Intermediate goods like parts of the fine andresidual fraction or high caloric fraction provide the op-portunity of different uses. All recyclables (pressed intobales or stored in containers) can be put on the market.Multi fraction separator in the industrial waste sortingManual quality control in a PPC sorting plantDeinking material from PPC sortingEven if the separate collection of pasteboard, paper andcardboard builds the base for a high recycling quote, onlythe right choice of technology can lead to an economicalsorting plant. Main part here is an automatisation as faras possible.Mechanical separation technology splits different materialstreams. Conveyor technology straightens out and isolatesthem, so that an optical identification system can guaranteea varietal separation in defined raw material sorts. In ad-dition to the main product deinking, there are mixed paperand varietal brown and white cardboard.Prior to the final bundling for the ongoing marketing, allqualities are controlled manually again.Pasteboard, paper and cardboardDelivery area of a MBT plant15Treatment plants PLANT ENGINEERINGThe main motivation of residual waste treatmentwith biological processes is based on the “EU-landfilldirective”. The target is a reduction of the residualwaste volumes to be land filled – especially a re-duction of biodegradable contingents. To transferthe resultant defaults efficiently in the plant con-struction means to treat the residual on differentstages mechanically. With the right mechanics asa combination of grinding, conveying, separatingand mixing technology the fine fraction (mainlyorganic material) is separated for the followingbiological treatment. The biology can be done aerobic (composting)or anaerobic (fermentation) or as a combinationof both.Mechanical-biological MSW treatmentMechanical treatment in a MBT plantThe anaerobic biological processes for the treat-ment of residual waste can be performed as a wetor dry process. Generally the aerobic treatment asa one- or two-step process follows the fermentationtechnology.AMB now puts the focus on a concept for biologi-cal treatment that is based on the principle of wetfermentation with following wet oxidation. The ob-jectives and tasks are always defined specificallyfor each project. But the central point of theseprocess conception is the production of biogas.Tunnel for intensive rottingAerobic waste treatment is normally a two shaftprocess. The first treatment step is the intensiverotting, mostly carried out as tunnel composting, with different technical implementations. The mainadvantage is the individual process control of eachtunnel. The process of tunnel composting is basicallycharacterized by the forced aeration with air circu-lation to provide an optimal rotting process with anadequate water content of the rotting material andan intensive supply with oxygen at a constant heaptemperature. Only the self-contained constructiongives the possibility of specific technical aerationand central exhaust air collection with subsequenttreatment. The second stage of the aerobic treatment is mostlyimplemented as secondary rotting. After the aerobictreatment follows the fine treatment with loadingsystems for the separated contingents.Treatment plants PLANT ENGINEERING 16Even after the waste incineration not all recycla-bles in the burnt residuals are lost. Especiallyhere it is possible to make the best of the restwith AMB. Processing on a high level of auto-mation is realised by a combination of convey-ing and separation technology. This way it is possible to achieve a constantly good qualityof the different output fractions.Main target is a high separation efficiency for recycla-bles and additives for building material. While the metalcontingents can be sold as scrap metal, the remaining slagcontingents in different grains can be used as landfillbuilding material.Bottom ash treatmentOutput bottom ash treatmentSeparating and conveyor technology for bottom ashRefuse derived fuelEach time when AMB sorting plants producerecyclable fractions or AMB treatment plantsfor residual waste separate the fine fraction forthe biological treatment, rest fractions emerge.Attractive are the high caloric fractions, becauseof the possibility to make refuse derived fuel(RDF) out of them. When the right treatment technology is chosenmulti fraction separators separate unwantedmaterials from the leftovers. Ferrous metalsand aluminium are separated as recyclables.Materials with PVC can be recognized andisolated by optical systems.Only from the wanted high caloric materialssingle shaft grinding machines produce RDF,which can be marketed in the adequate par-ticle size.RDF productionSteel construction for a container loading station17Steel construction and PLC control PLANT ENGINEERINGSteel constructionSorting cabinPLC controlWhere the quality of recyclables has to becontrolled manually, the requirements of theworkstations are high. Sorting cabins withlarge windows, sound- and heat-insulatedpanels and air conditioning create a worker-friendly room climate. The interaction of all components of a sorting andtreatment plant is coordinated by a superior PLCcontrol. Different variations of visualisation on dis-plays or PC make a supervision of the fully- auto-mated operation possible. In case of breakdownhereby an extensive analysis of the shown messagescan be realised.During a reparation state single units can be con-trolled specifically. The documentation of all operat-ing conditions is included as well as a large numberof analysis variations.Master display PLC controlInterior view of sorting cabinWhether inspection platform or gangway, stairway or support, the steelconstruction is an important part of each AMB sorting and treatmentplant. For each project all plant specificated components are constructed, manufactured and assembled. So a plant becomes more than an amountof single aggregates.18Assembling of a drum sieveDelivering components for sorting and treat-ment plants is the one thing. Designing completeturn-key plants, assemble them professionally, take into operation and attend them until theacceptance test, is the other thing. And exactly this is the competence ofAMB plant engineering and construction. From conception to customer serviceMaking the best of the rest.Assembling and ServiceOur employees mutually ensure thehigh quality of the AMB products fromdevelopment up to manufacturing. This standard is also certificated in:· DIN EN ISO 9001· DIN EN ISO 14001· Eco-audit· Entry in the standard registerNot only as manufacturing company butalso in education we can demonstrateas a mid-size-company that performanceleads to success.INSTALLATION AND SERVICEDIN EN ISO 14001 DIN EN ISO 9001Entry in the standard register Eco-auditQuality assurance INSTALLATION AND SERVICE 19If you want to know more about AMB do not hestitate tocontact us by mail or by phone.
