They are indispensable. But...they continue to be a major cause of industrial accidents. How big a deal is this? Much bigger than most of us realize. How about over 100 deaths annually in the U.S.? And a total of 90,000 reportable serious accidents? Of these, a huge 42% occur in manufacturing facilities. (Source: NIOSH*)Even the normal precautions - operator training, signs, floor markings, horns, back-up signals and parabolic mirrors are not enough. All too often, human error creeps in.If you are in senior management or part of a Health and Safety Committee, the unique CROSSING GUARD sensor and alarm system deserves your serious consideration. When it senses two separate movements, it flashes and sounds an alarm warning of a potential accident. It even detects a pedestrian standing still. This alarm system heightens awareness wherever it is installed. You could lose a valuable employee or a visiting customer for months. Or forever. NIOSH indicates that 44% of forklift accidents involve pedestrians, and about one in every five fatalities happen when another worker is struck by a forklift.Imagine, too, the cost of litigation and jury awards. Forklift accident awards can be staggering – sometimes approaching $20-million, plus disruptions for everyone involved. In addition to lost productivity, you may also face increased insurance premiums.Conversely, installing CROSSING GUARD could allow you to negotiate lower insurance premiums, helping to defray the cost of the system. CROSSING GUARD helps you take the Error out of Human Error. Is your forklIftan acciDent Waiting to haPPen ?no one Wants to Be resPonsiBle For a Death or inJUry. iDentiFy Potential risk areas:Blind intersections, corners, corridors, hallways, drivewaysWarehouse rows and intersectionsManufacturing assembly areas and stock roomsProduction lines and work areasIn-plant offices – door entrancesStairwells aligned with traffic lanesShipping and receiving docks and service doorsTraffic lane intersections with walk lanesWarehouse office entrance doorsExisting parabolic mirrors – enhance or replace* (NIOSH) National Institute for Occupational Safety and HealthBy detecting two separate motions and presences in a factory, warehouse or jobsite, or one forklift motion and one stationary pedestrian, CROSSING GUARD alerts all in the risk area that there’s ABOUT TO BE A COLLISION.One Day CROSSING GUARD Will Save A LifeHOW IT WORKSAdjustable sensors monitor a risk area and detect the presence of pedestrians and forklifts which indicate a collision course that could lead to an accident.Alarms are immediately triggered, both audible and by flashing high-intensity LED light.Different sensors are available for manufacturing processes, shipping dock areas and warehouse operations. LOW-COST POWERSolar technology picks up energy from ambient light to trickle-charge the low voltage primary battery. In most cases, no wiring or approvals are required, and operating cost is minimal. Very easy to install and relocate. Can mount on wall, corner, ceiling, span or racking. Can also be plugged into a low voltage power source if required.A secondary battery sounds an alarm when the micro-processor detects low battery power, indicating that the primary battery needs recharging, repair or replacement. SENSORS FOR MANUFACTURING AREASAn optional model combines a pressure-sensitive sensor along with presence sensors as required. This enhances monitoring of: • production lines and work areas• store rooms• shipping and receiving areas AVAILABLE DATA COLLECTIONThe micro-processor can collect and transmit sensor activities, aiding the investigation of an occurrence. This may result in additional training, changes in procedure, and possibly a rearrangement of stored product to reduce collision potential.
