It can be operatedby gravity flow, meaning that pumps are not needed to make water flow thorough the filter. These multi-cell filters also are equipped for. “Self back-washing”. Back-washing is the cleaning process for multi-cell filters; if these filters were not self back-washing then they would require separate pumps and storage tanks just to keep the filters clean. This is a large hassle, bulky and expensive; so the Self back-washing feature is extremely cost-effective and efficient. These filters can be installed as single units or expanded into batteries for additional capacity. They can be configured differently, with different sizes and placement and their compact size reduces foundation and building. These filters can be used for high rate; up-flow clarifiers if high suspended solids concentrations are encountered. They also work for slow rate drinking water requirements and high rate process water filtration. These filters are widely used for filtration of portable industrial process and cooling water. Advantages:• Low initial cost and low log term operating maintenance costs. • Delivers a high clarity effluent consistently, with a wide range of influent contaminants and is insensitive to normal fluctuations in flow and pressure.• Does not require highly skilled personnel for operation and maintenance.• Conserves pumping power and pump maintenance.• Effectively removes colloidal matter and handles flocculent and gelatinous suspended matter without rapid pressure drop and build up.Horizontal Multi-Cell FiltrationDiameter Length Bed Area Flow Rate Backwash4 Feet 8 Feet 32 Cubic Feet 160 gpm 80gpm4 Feet 10 Feet 40 Cubic Feet 200 gpm 100 gpm5 Feet 12 Feet 60 Cubic Feet 300 gpm 150 gpm5 Feet 16 Feet 80 Cubic Feet 400 gpm 200 gpm6 Feet 18 Feet 108 Cubic Feet 540 gpm 270 gpm6 Feet 22 Feet 132 Cubic Feet 660 gpm 330 gpm8 Feet 20 Feet 160 Cubic Feet 800 gpm 400 gpmW2SYSTEMSW2 Systems290 Industrial Way Brisbane, CA 94005Office: (415) 468-9858Fax: (415) 468-9854W2systems@prodigy.netwww.w2systems.comVertical Multi-Cell Filtration (3 cells per unit)Media FiltrationDiameter Area Flow Rate Backwash Weight24 Inch 3.1 Cubic Feet 48 gpm 30 gpm 2,350 lbs.30 Inch 4.9 Cubic Feet 75 gpm 50 gpm 3,900 lbs.36 Inch 7.1 Cubic Feet 108 gpm 70 gpm 5,200 lbs.42 Inch 9.6 Cubic Feet 144 gpm 95 gpm 7,500 lbs.48 Inch 12.6 Cubic Feet 189 gpm 125 gpm 9,750 lbs.54 Inch 15.9 Cubic Feet 240 gpm 150 gpm 12,450 lbs.60 Inch 19.7 Cubic Feet 297 gpm 200 gpm 15,950 lbs.Vertical Pressure Media Filters:These filters can be operated in parallel with a bed of granular media of select silica sand, anthracite coal of a combination of both. This type of water has two harmful effects, scale deposits and destruction of soap and other useful chemicals. To counteract these cations we use a process called “water softening” though the Sodium Zeolite Process. This process removes the “hardness” from water and exchanges it with sodium ions and this helps to normalize the water to “0” hardness, because of salt’s “soft” properties. The Sodium Zeolite Process is the most common process of water conditioning. The process takes place by flowing “hard” water through the cation exchange bed where the Ca++ and Mg++ are replaced by Sodium on the ion exchange resin. Reverse Osmosis (RO) will remove suspended solids to levels below those needed for any drinking water requirements and is often used as treatment for bottled water plants. The RO unit is primarily used to remove dissolved solids, suspended solids, bacteria and other undesired organics. RO removes all suspended material to 0.01 micron and 95% of dissolved solids. The RO unit removes 99.9% of Cryptosporidium, Giardia and all other disease producing bacteria and organic material. The RO unit is the best source for safe drinking water without the use of distillation; it is the preferred source for DI water plants, Biotechnology facilities and other clean water processes as well.Reverse Osmosis is used by cells in nature in which water flows, naturally, through a semi-permeablemembrane from an area of high concentration into an area of low concentration. To create this concept through man made filtration units the natural osmotic exchange had to be mechanically recreated, because the natural exchange had to be mechanically recreated, because the natural exchange from one area to another couldn’t be made, thus, reverse osmosis. This is the process of pushing water through a semi permeable membrane in which only water and not the contaminants within it could pass through the membrane. The effectiveness of the R.O. Decreases as water temperature increases. There is, of course, a maximum flow to any R.O. because the membrane may only withstand a certain amount of pressure. Not all the water flows through the membrane, because there must be a small amount left to flush away the contaminants left behind, this is called recovery. W2SYSTEMSW2 Systems290 Industrial Way Brisbane, CA 94005Office: (415) 468-9858Fax: (415) 468-9854W2systems@prodigy.netwww.w2systems.comMembranes: There are two types of membranes:1. Cellulose Acetate (CA)- Very susceptible to bacteria attack, but somewhat tolerant ofchlorine. Very pH sensitive. 2. Polyamide (PA)- No tolerance for chlorine and other oxidizing agents in feed water, not pH sensitive. Feed water Pretreatment:The feed water must be compatible with the R.O. membrane, because if not than there are some chemicals that are known to stick to them and foul them or dissolve them. There are four major factors that influence pretreatment:1. Colloidal fouling 2. Biological fouling with micro-organisms3. Solubility of calcium carbonate4. Solubility of calcium sulfateReverse Osmosis System:The basic R.O.S. consists of a high-pressure pump, pressure vessels with membrane contents and a control system to regulate flow and a control system to regulate flow and pressure. In the simplest systems the R.O. pressure vessels are arranged in parallel. All the vessels operate under identical pressure conditions and with the same percent recovery, this is the system adopted for most low-capacity plants. To increase the recovery percentages, several R.O. pressure vessels may be linked together so as water comes out of one it is passed to the next before it actually has completed the full recovery, this may achieve a recovery of 70% to 90% in a two or three stage plant.
