Insufficient attention to sewage or industrial wastewater treatment results in pollution and related problems. However with an increase in awareness of the people living in the vicinity of polluting industries and government, the authorities are more vigilant about the quality of water being discharged by industries. Since the last decade, stringent quality standards are being applied to plant effluents, both by regulatory authorities and by the plant managements who are concerned about the environment. This, in turn, has resulted in a focus on the biological activity in a treatment plant,  particularly the aeration basin. Dissolved Oxygen (DO) is the most critical parameter for the aeration system or the activated sludge process.
