Background

On July 1, 2000, Chevron Corporation and Phillips Petroleum Company, now Phillips 66, combined their worldwide petrochemical businesses, excluding Chevron’s oronite additives business, to form Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC. Chevron and Phillips 66 each own 50 percent of Chevron Phillips Chemical. Included in the merger were PLEXCO and Phillips Driscopipe, Inc. which combined to form Performance Pipe, a division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP.

Performance Pipe Timeline

For more than 50 years, HDPE has played a prominent role in the pipe industry. Below are a few highlights of Performance Pipe`s history.

Invented HDPE pipe resin in 1951.
Developed the butt fusion joining method for PE pipe in 1955
Installed the first PE gas distribution system in North America.
In the 1960`s, opened plants in Oklahoma and Texas. Introduced HDPE pipe for oil patch and water service tubing. Introduced Driscopipe® 7000 piping products for gas distributionalong with the sidewall fusion tapping tee.
In the 1970`s opened plants in Tennessee, Iowa and Startex. Produced the first 48" diameter pipe in North Ameria..
Received FM approval for HDPE pipe in the 1980s and opened a plant in Nevada. The first to co-extrude striped pipe, the first to coil 4" and 6" HDPE pipe, and the first to produce 54" pipe.
In the 1990`s we developed the HDPE MJ Adapter and were the first to produce bimodal PE100 resin in North America. Opened a plant in Maryland in 1986 and became the first to produce HDPE in DIPS sizes.
In 2000 Phillips Driscopipe Inc. and Chevron`s combined to form Performance Pipe.
In the 2000`s plants expansions occurred in multiple locations, and in 2013 phase 1 modernization was completed.
