Dry/Wet Riser Systems Brochure
Rising mainsA rising main is a system of pipe work and valves that enables water to bedelivered for fire fighting purposes to all floors in buildings over 18 metreshigh. It consists of a vertical pipe with landing valves fitted in cabinets oneach floor that act as outlets, enabling the fire service to connect into thewater supply.Rising mainsA dry riser system can be charged with water by pumping from a fireservice appliance via an inlet breeching fitted in a cabinet on theoutside of the building at ground level. An air release valve is fitted atthe highest point to enable the riser to be fully charged.A wet riser system is a pipe kept permanently charged with water thatis immediately available for use on any floor on which a landing valveis provided. Wet risers are necessary for buildings over 60 metres highwhere fire service pumps cannot supply the necessary water pressurevia a dry riser. When pumps and tanks are installed to providesufficient water pressures then there may be a requirement forpressure regulating valves.Twin inlet breechingKidde inlet breechings are manufactured to BS 5041-3.
