Sample ports may seem like a little thing, but there are many issues with them. Metal barbs can be sharp and cause leakage by shredding the inside of push-on caps and tubing. Brass fittings corrode. Cheap, plastic barbs break or snap off. Quick-connect style fittings have o-rings that deteriorate and leak. And, port covers are easily lost or stolen by birds, they can also be tough to remove and frequently tear.
