Conformed to Addenda 11195-1 001\\\\98-41\\\\specsSeptember 29, 2000SECTION 11196AUTOMATIC FOAM SUPPRESSION SYSTEM FOR AERATION BASINSPART 1—GENERAL1.01 DESCRIPTIONA. SCOPE:This section specifies automatic foam suppression systems. The systems consist of arotating spray apparatus attachment mounted above the aeration basin, strategically positionedover the entirety of each tank to automatically breakup, suppress and spray the foam, scum andother foreign material on the surface of each tank. The spray apparatus is self-propelled andrequires no additional drives or mechanisms.B. TYPE:The equipment shall be suitable for use in the aeration basins. The equipment shall bespecifically designed for the conditions described and shown.C. DEFINITIONS: (not used)D. PERFORMANCE AND DESIGN REQUIREMENTS:The automatic cleaning systems shall be designed to clean the following surfaces.1. AREATION BASINSF. OPERATING REQUIREMENTS:1. The equipment shall be designed to operate above the aeration basins andbe designed to operate in all weather conditions.1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCEA. REFERENCES:Conformed to Addenda 11195-2 001\\\\98-41\\\\specsSeptember 29, 2000This section contains references to the following documents. They are a part of thissection as specified and modified. In case of conflict between this section and the listeddocuments, the requirements of this section shall prevail.Unless otherwise specified, references to documents shall mean the documents in effectat the time of Advertisement for Bids or Invitation to Bid (or on the effective date of theAgreement if there were no Bids). If referenced documents have been discontinued by theissuing organization, references to those documents shall mean the replacement documentsissued or otherwise identified by the organization or, if there are no replacement documents, thelast version of the document before it was discontinued. STANDARDS:1. STRUCTURAL STEEL AND WELDS: All structural steel used forequipment fabrication shall conform to the requirements of the Standard Specifications for Steelfor Bridges and Buildings and ASTM A36. All welding shall conform to the latest standards ofthe American Welding Society (AWS). Continuous seal welds shall be provided at all weldedjoints. Skip welds will not be permitted.2. STRUCTURAL DESIGN: All steel structural components shall be sodesigned that the stresses developed under the specified conditions will not exceed the allowablestresses defined by the AISC standards and the aforementioned standards. Except wherespecifically indicated otherwise, all plate and structural members designed for submerged serviceshall be steel with a minimum thickness of ¼”.C. UNIT RESPONSIBILITY:The Contractor shall assign unit responsibility to the equipment manufacturer for theequipment specified in this section. Items not in this section but shown on the contract drawingsmay be provided by others. The Contractor shall cause the equipment manufacturer to coordinatedetailed fabrication of these items with the Contractor’s supplier. The Contractor shall also causethe foam suppression system manufacturer of the equipment specified in this section tocoordinate with the aeration tank equipment manufacturer for the equipment. Nothing in thisConformed to Addenda 11195-3 001\\\\98-41\\\\specsSeptember 29, 2000provision, however, shall be construed as relieving the Contractor of his/her overallresponsibility for this portion of the work. A certificate of unit responsibility shall be provided.1.03 SUBMITTALSSubmittals shall be and shall include information as follows.A. A copy of this specification section, with addendum updates included, and allreferenced and applicable sections, with addendum updates included, with each paragraph check-marked to indicate specification compliance or marked to indicate requested deviations fromspecification requirements. Check marks (3 ) shall denote full compliance with a paragraph as awhole. If deviations from the specifications are indicated and, therefore requested by theContractor, each deviation shall be underlined and denoted by a number in the margin to theright of the identified paragraph. The remaining portions of the paragraph not underlined willsignify compliance on the part of the Contractor with the specifications. The submittal shall beaccompanied by a detailed, written justification for each deviation. Failure to include a copy ofthe marked-up specification sections, along with justification(s) for any requested deviations tothe specification requirements, with the submittal shall be sufficient cause for rejection of theentire submittal with no further consideration.B. General arrangement drawings showing the entire assembly. This shall include amaterials list and descriptions of all major components such as all structural members, piping,and spray nozzles.C. Proposed on-site testing and start-up procedures, including.D. A copy of the contract document control diagrams and process andinstrumentation diagrams, with addenda updates, that apply to the equipment in this sectionmarked to show specific changes necessary for the supplied equipment. If no changes arerequired, the drawing shall be marked “No Changes Required”.1.04 ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONSEnvironmental conditions are described in applicable sections. Eco-Blaster, BCS isdesigned to operate in all weather conditions.PART 2—PRODUCTS2.01 ACCEPTABLE PRODUCTSThe Eco-Blaster, Biological Control Systems equipment shall be as manufactured byGillTrading.com, Inc., modified to provide the specified features and to meet the specifiedoperating requirements.2.02 MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENTA. FOAM SUPPRESSION ASSEMBLY:Conformed to Addenda 11195-4 001\\\\98-41\\\\specsSeptember 29, 20001. The Eco-Blaster, BCS assembly shall provide a means of attaching therotating foam suppression to the side walls of the tank mechanism in a manner that does notinterfere with the normal operation of the aeration basin .2. The Eco-Blaster, BCS shall be constructed of heavy duty copper andcomposite epoxy tubing and custom designed for compatibility with the tank provided.3. The Eco-Blaster, BCS requires no contact with the surfaces being cleaned.The Eco-Blaster, BCS will allow surface irregularities &/or radial variance of +/-6” or more ifrequired.B. PIPING:1. The piping that supplies the Eco-Blaster, BCS shall be constructed of polyethylene pipe, cpvc and galvanized steel.2. The piping shall attach to the support structure with normal pipe “U” boltsor other common fasteners.C. NOZZLES:The nozzles shall be constructed with brass to withstand continuous exposure to sunlight,seasonal temperature changes and the corrosive elements found in wastewater.D. FINISHING REQUIREMENTS:1. All fabricated steel or ferrous metal shall be fully prepared with a shop- orfield-applied prime and final coats. Preparation of steel and ferrous surfaces shall comply withrequirements specified.2. Test areas of any shop-applied prime coats shall be selected by theConstruction Manager for removal to verify compliance.3. Items fabricated of 304 stainless steel shall not be field painted.2.04 SPARE PARTSA. Spare parts shall be provided as follows:1 complete set of spray nozzles for each type of tank in which the system isutilized.B. Spare parts shall be tagged and stored.2.05 PRODUCT DATAThe following product data shall be provided:Conformed to Addenda 11195-5 001\\\\98-41\\\\specsSeptember 29, 2000A. Applicable operating and maintenance information.B. Installation Certification Form.C. Training Certification Form.PART 3—EXECUTION3.01 INSTALLATION, FIELD TESTING, AND START-UPEquipment furnished under this section shall be installed, checked, and adjusted asrecommended by a factory service technician provided by the manufacturer. The installationshall be certified.3.02 FIELD TESTING AND START-UPA. GENERAL:In addition to the installation and acceptance tests specified in other portions of theproject manual, the equipment furnished under this section shall be subject to the following fieldperformance tests. All performance tests shall be performed under the on-site supervision ofpersonnel trained by the manufacturer. All equipment and instrumentation necessary tocomplete the testing procedures outlined below shall be provided by the Manufacturer.Performance testing shall include operational testing.B. LEAKAGE TESTS1. Rotary swivel joints shall have minimal leakage to provide adequate spray pressure atthe fixed spray attachment nozzles.2. All piping joints will be inspected and verified leak free at the time of the test.C. OPERATING TESTS:1. Each Eco-Blaster, BCS mechanism shall be operated continuouslypressurized at its maximum speed for a period of not less than 48 hours. During this time, eachsystem shall be momentarily un-pressurized and then pressurized.2. D. TRAININGDuring the commissioning period, a factory representative shall start up and train plantpersonnel in operating and maintenance procedures of the equipment specified in this section fornot less than 2 hours.
