The Environment Agency are changing the way theyregulate discharges to water by introducing a number of'better regulation' initiatives. For you, this may mean thatyou can monitor your own discharge and report results tothe Environment Agency.From April 2010, all discharge consents have beenincorporated into the Environmental PermittingProgramme (EPP) and are called Environmental Permits.In the current system, the Environment Agency undertakesmonitoring of discharges to water, but under Operator SelfMonitoring (OSM), water companies and other businesseswill monitor their own discharges and report the results tothe Environment Agency with other companies expectedto follow. Water companies already started this in April2009.
