Commercial and industrial cleansing processes generate wastewater that may only be pretreated once before being discharged into the sewage system. The washing water will contain particulate, emulsified and dissolved substances in the form of dirt, paint residues, oils, grease and heavy metals, as well as residues from cleaning agents. Using acidic and alkaline cleaning agents or corrosives in turn produces acidic or alkaline wastewater.
