To protect the pumps fromdamage, screens and grit separa-tors are installed. The ensuing scree-nings and grit which are removedfrom the water at deep levels haveto be conveyed vertically to groundlevel. Operation of the skip hoist system:The FSM skip hoist system features acollecting box (skip) mounted inguide rails. At the upper end of the guide railsthe skip is connected to a specialwinch that raises and lowers theskip.At the upper section of the track theskip is guided over a container andtilted so that screenings and grit aredischarged into the container.At the start of the cycle, the emptyskip is at the upper end of the track.The winch drive starts in the oppo-site direction and lowers the skipdown to the end of the track.The skip is now ready to take inscreenings and separated grit.In case of higher lifting heights, a se-cond hoist is installed parallel to thefirst hoist, enabling the second hoistto be filled while the first hoist isbeing emptied.A diverting chute is installed to ap-portion the screenings and grit tothe two skips. The chute is swi-veled by a drive from onedischarge point to the other.If the hoist system is required tobe fully automatic, the skip mustbe provided with a level measuringdevice.
