The HI 1771-WS has an internaldiagnostics switch, whichtakes the sense and signalload cell lines andconnects them to aninternal resistance. It readsweight data from strain gage loadsensors and communicates this dataover the I/O chassis backplane toone of Allen-Bradley's PLC-5 familyof Programmable ControllerProcessors. The HI 1771-WS modulereduces installation costs as it needsno external stand-alone scaleinstrument, and provides a wiredcommunications link to the PLC.The HI 1771-WS conditions anddigitizes the weight signal 20 timesper second with over one millioncounts of resolution over adifferential signal range of 0 to30mV. It then transmits the selectableGross, Net and/or Rate-of-Changedata to the processor. This highresolution allows the module totolerate large dead loads andoversizing of the load sensors whileretaining a high level of usableresolution. The module supplies 10Vof DC excitation to drive up to four350 ohm load sensors, or load cells,associated with a single scale. It willsupport additional load cells with anexternal power supply.FEATURESTwo independent firmware set pointsare included that provide controlcapability. Each have a separate preactto compensate for in-flight materialas well as system response delaysalong with a deadband that compen-sates for potential relay chatter.Two bi-color LEDs on the module'sfront panel report its functionalcharacteristics.
