Infrasolid is a spin-off of the Institute for Solid State Electronics of the Excellence University TU Dresden. The tradition goes back to 1971, when Dr. Ludwig Walther was appointed a full professor for Technological Processes of Electronics at the section Electronics Technology and Precision Engineering of the TU Dresden. At that time Prof. Walther started research work on the development of high-resolution infrared detectors which were to be used for optical testing of electronic assemblies. Within a short period of time, this developed into the field of infrared measurement technology, which included the manufacture of infrared sensitive materials, the development of corresponding technological processes and the design and manufacture of infrared detectors, as well as their use for a wide variety of measurement applications. Since then, infrared measurement technology has been an important pillar of research.

With the expansion of the research spectrum, especially in the field of functional optical thin films, a nanotechnology for the production of extremely thin, highly absorbent layers for thermal infrared sensors was developed and patented by Dr. Marco Schossig in 2007-2011. This was the technological basis for the development of highly efficient thermal infrared radiation sources. In the following years, a machine for the large-scale deposition of nanostructures was developed. At the same time, the proof of concept was achieved with the development of the first prototype of a novel thermal infrared radiator and a patent was applied for the technology.

With the granting of an EXIST founder scholarship, the infrared radiation sources were further developed and were ready for the market at the end of 2016. Infrasolid GmbH, headquartered in Dresden, was founded in May 2017. The following funding with a technology founder grant from the Sächsische AufbauBank focused on the development of series maturity and miniaturization of the infrared emitters. At the site of the Technologiezentrum Dresden-Süd, Infrasolid has its own modern production facility that meets the industry`s highest standards in terms of volume and reproducibility.

The European Union (EU) is supporting the Infrasolid GmbH with funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). As part of the funding program innovation bonus from the Sächsische AufbauBank (SAB), feasibility studies for an integrated handling and bonding process for the assembly of infrared emitters and for an electrical contacting device for SMD infrared emitters are supported. By applying thermal solutions to the skin, various positive effects can be achieved in case of skin irritations. The Sächsische AufbauBank (SAB) supports the production of a pilot series and the market launch as part of the support programme Market Launch of Innovative Products - Introduction Phase. The funds are provided by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union (EU).

The European Union (EU), with funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and the Free State of Saxony are supporting the Infrasolid GmbH. As part of the funding program research and development collaborative project from the Sächsische AufbauBank (SAB), fast and miniaturised detector systems with innovative NIR emitters (SMD-NIR) will be developed.
