The situationIt is often the case that residential estates, municipalities, solitary farms or community centres(such as sports facilities) are not connected to central orsemi-central wastewater treatment plants. Wastewatergenerated in these places is still discharged viaindividual multi-compartment septic tanks. This disposalroute can be damaging to groundwater and soalternative solutions must be found. In addition hotels and holiday resorts in remotelocations need their own facilities for wastewatertreatment and ideally recycling.??? The solutionThe biological sewage plantHUBER MembraneClearBox® for 10 - 150 PEThis MembraneClearBox® system was developed forsmall sewage treatment plants for 50 – 150 PE. The system combines the benefits of biological wastewatertreatment and membrane filtration with submergedultrafiltration membranes. The units consists of anaeration system and the HoneyComb® ultrafiltrationrack with membrane modules. The number of modulesis throughput-dependent.The effluent quality is so high that the treatedwastewater can be used for flushing toilets. This canreduce the drinking water demand of a household byup to 40 % The effluent can also be used forirrigation.??? System description The wastewater from the each source flows through a(possibly new) local network into a settling tank toremove solids (alternatively a mechanical coarsematerial separation system can be used). From thesettlement tank, the wastewater overflows into asecond intermediate storage tank, and from this tank, the wastewater is pumped to the treatment tank. Thetreatment system consists of an aeration unit installedat the tank bottom and the MembraneClearBox®module rack containing up to 36 individual modulesdepending on required throughput. Ancillaryequipment can be positioned in an adjacent building.??? The benefits? Minimised sewer building costs? Bacteria-free and germ-free effluent? Use of existing tanks? Reuse of treated wastewater saves drinking water?
