DCM300EEarth Leakage ClampmeterDESCRIPTIONThe DCM300E is designed mainly to check earth leakagecurrents. However, the upper range will measure currentsof up to 300 A a.c. making it a totally versatile instrumentcapable of taking most current measurements.The instrument has four ranges; 30 mA, 300 mA, 30 A and300 A with a minimum resolution of 0,01 mA on the30 mA range.For those hard to read measurements, where there areproblems of accessibility or poor lighting, a data hold fea-ture has been incorporated, to aid measurement.To save battery life when not in use the instrument has anautomatic power off feature and will turn itself off if ithasn’t taken any readings over a 10 minute period. Thistotally new clampmeter development ensures that thelatest safety design standards EN61010-2-32 and EMCrequirements are met. Safety is enhanced with theincorporation of a tactile barrier. Extra insulation has beenused around the jaw specifically to reduce the possibilityof causing a short circuit between live conductors, as wellas protecting the operator from accidentally getting anelectric shock.Simply Clamp onWith existing installations especially, by far the simplestand easiest method of checking an installation is with aclamp-on current meter. The clampmeter can be usedto locate the fault within the circuit without it beingnecessary to disassemble the wiring.APPLICATIONA typical application for the clamp-meter would be themeasurement of earth leakage current in a circuit wherethe RCD keeps tripping out. The measured result willquickly identify whether the earth leakage current presentis excessive causing the RCD to trip, or that the RCD itselfis faulty.
