Link-Pipe HydroSeal™ Specifications 1. Intent This specification is offered to provide installation instruction for underground potable water pipe rehabilitation utilizing Link-Pipe technology. In this process Link-Pipe HydroSeal™ sleeves are inserted from an opening created by removing a valve or other opening made into the pipe, then installed internally over a leaking joint. The process reduces, or eliminates completely the need to excavate through expensive surface structures. 2. Abstract Link-Pipe HydroSeal™ is manufactured at the Link-Pipe factory under ISO-9001:2000 certified quality control conditions. The product is shipped pre-packaged, containing all necessary ingredients for water main joint repair. The sleeve contains a stainless steel core, a gasket and a sealant, which are suitable for use in potable water. 3. Performance Criteria 3.1 Link-Pipe HydroSeal™ Sleeves provide long-term sealing of leaking joints. 3.2 The maximum recommended working pressure in the pipe is 150 psi. (10 bars.) 3.3 All sealants and other sleeve components meet generally accepted health standards applicable for potable water contact. (Local standards must be verified before the use of these sleeves is specified.) 3.4 The wall thickness of the HydroSeal™ repair should not protrude more than 3/8 in. (10 mm) into the host pipe. 4. Installation Procedure 4.1 For repairs, the main must be taken out of service. 4.2 The prospective work site in the pipe should then be pre-inspected using a CCTV camera. A record must be kept of the inspection. (CCTV pre-inspection is required to determine the internal condition of the host pipe and the location of the intended HydroSeal™ installation.) 4.3 Prior to a HydroSeal™ installation, the main must be thoroughly cleaned of any deposits exposing the pipe wall to bare metal over the repair area. 4.4 A second CCTV inspection should be made following the cleaning to verify that the pipe is ready for the repairs. 4.5 In preparation for the HydroSeal™ installation the plug must be calibrated. “Calibration pressure” is the pressure required to inflate the plug rubber to make contact with inside wall of the host pipe. The gasket is then wrapped around the sleeve and tied so as to hold it on the sleeve. The prepared sleeve is then mounted on the air plug specified for installation. Slight pressure is applied to the plug to hold the sleeve in place while the assembly travels in the pipe. A camera is attached in front of the plug/sleeve assembly looking back on the sleeve to monitor sleeve transportation and installation of the sleeve. 4.7 When the sleeve arrives to the repair site, it is positioned while being observed by the CCTV camera. The “installation pressure” is then applied, forcing the sleeve to expand. (The air pressure depends on the diameter and condition of the host pipe. See Table 1). Table 1. Host Pipe Diameter (inch.) 6 - 8 10 - 12 15 - 18 21 - 24 27 - 36 39 - 48 54 Installation Surcharge (psi) 30 to 35 27 to 32 27 to 30 22 to 27 20 to 25 17 to 22 15 to 20 Note: Add “calibration pressure” to the “installation surcharge” to get recommended “Installation Pressure” 4.8 Installation is complete when all locks are engaged. Engaging of the locks is often announced by clicking sounds that can be heard coming from the pipe. As soon as the locks are engaged, the Plug must be deflated. The resin must be left to cure undisturbed. 4.9 Before removing the Plug from the pipe, or moving on to another installation site, the sleeve must be re-inspected to make sure all locks are engaged. Equipment is then retrieved. 5. Clean Up On completion, the installer shall clean the construction site and restore all surface features to their original state. At all times the installer must keep the work site clean, erecting warning signs for the protection of the public. 6. Quality Control As the last step in closing the project, the installer shall deliver a videotape and photos of the installed sleeves to the owners. Should the owner during the review that follows discover any defects and make a request for their repair, the contractor shall repair all defects as noted at contractor’s expense.
