The solid phase is made of mineral and organic matter present as flocks. If the sludge is left unagitated, it settles in layers in the bottom of the silo and a pasty crust forms on the surface, so-called floating sludge. In the intermediate zone, water circulates between the flocks of sludge. It forms pockets, the majority of which are concentrated near the surface. Facts and performance: - Good clogging resistance thanks to the V-shaped profile of the continuous slot. - Highly resistant to corrosion; manufactured in stainless steel, grade 316L. - Great mechanical strength as a result of its integrally welded design. - Made-to-measure openings and the possibility of varying the opening over the height of the drain. - Ease of adaptation to local requirements (on all types of flanges). - Installation is fast, easy and inexpensive. 2014-02-07 EN Malmberg Water AB, SE-296 85 Åhus, Phone: +46 44 780 18 00. The Decanting Unit is connected to a DN 400 tube which is equipped with a submersible pump and integrated switch for on/off function. This means that you have a continuous decantation of the sludge and that it works regardless of which level you have in the tank. A riser pipe is leading up the drained water and ends with a hose connector that you yourself can deflect and divert the drained water to desired point. The height of the Decanting Unit will be adjusted to the requirements of the plant and the customer preferences. Sludge Drains / Drainage The installation of vertical drains improves the thickening (dryness) by recovering the liquid phase situated under the crust. The reduction in the amount of water in the sludge brings many advantages: - Economic: Reduction in the volume of sludge and therefore a reduction in the costs of removal and transport. - Agricultural: Possibility to recover a higher proportion of fertilizer. - Environmental: Less energy expended in spreading and reduction in the risk of liquid sludge run-off or infiltration into the ground.
