The systems operate continuously and can be cleaned and maintained without any downtime. We can provide custom designed and engineered systems tailored to each unique environment, meeting stringent regulations protecting fish and aquatic life. • Smaller size – New design makes it possible to use a smaller and more manageable Intake Screen. • Lower cost – The Intake Screen systems provide a unique, flexible design which results in lower initial costs, no moving parts, less maintenance needs and simplified installation. • Less maintenance – The Intake Screen systems have no moving parts that could break down or wear out, unlike travelling screens. This eliminates the need for replacement parts and costly repairs. The systems are made of corrosion-resistant material. • Environmental friendly – The flow velocity in the screens is so low that no aquatic organisms risk drawn into the system. They are also hidden under the water and not visible. • Easy cleaning – The Intake System is backwashed with compressed air (HydroburstTM) and is automatically operated so there is no need for divers. • No removal of material – At back flushing the material is transported away by the water currents. • Adaptability – Every Intake Screen system can be custom designed and tailored to each unique environment considering: - Type of water, selecting suitable material considering corrosion issues, to repel molluscs and to resist bio fouling (stainless steel, Z-alloy). - The size of the particles in the water, yet to be filtered, by selecting a suitable size of the slot (average of 3 mm). - The water source’s flow, depth, currents and available space (S or T shaped screens). Conventional Intake: The design allows variation in entrance velocity across the screen face. High Capacity Intake: The screens have uniform flow rates at 90% of the maximum allowable velocity. The process flushes the debris away from the screen surface by releasing a large volume of compressed air inside the screen in a quick burst. The backwash system consists of four major components: 1. A compressor which supplies compressed air, needed to recharge the receiver tank. 2. A receiver tank that stores the compressed air. 3. A distributor system required for multi-screen applications. 4. A control panel for manual or automatic operation. 5. The typical backwash procedure cleans each water intake sequentially or at regular intervals. When needed it is possible to clean/backwash multiple screens simultaneously. Control panel and receiver tank Ongoing backwashing Malmberg Water AB, SE-296 85 Åhus, Sweden. Phone: +46 44 780 18 00. The Intake Screens have, with very good experience, been installed at more than 500 different places in many various applications, for example raw water intake, desalination plants, cooling systems, process water and irrigation. Intake Screens are currently operating around the world, even in places with difficult conditions where other screens have proven not to work. Stacked installation Parallel installation Material: Less maintenance with right choice of material. It is a very complex process to choose the right material considering corrosion issues, to repel molluscs and to resist bio fouling. Usually a preliminary study must be done. Malmberg offers staff with technical expertise on site to assist customers in the selection of materials and alloys that fit in the current aquatic environment. Example: Our Z-alloy acts as a pesticide for organisms that settle on the screen. This material has also a high corrosion resistance to salt water. When suitable material is selected, it is produced with proven technology to retain the material’s corrosion resistance. Malmberg Water AB, SE-296 85 Åhus, Sweden. Phone: +46 44 780 18 00.
