Membrane Interface Probe

MIP effectively locates zones where dense nonaqueous phase liquids (DNAPL) and light nonaqueous phase liquids (LNAPL) may be present and provides real-time measurements for optimising monitoring wells and/or sample locations when using a dynamic work plan. By identifying the depth at which a contaminant is located, a more representative sample of soil or water can be collected.Correlation of a series of MIP logs across a site can provide 2-D and 3-D modelling of the contaminant plume. Together with the lithology logs, the contaminant migration pathways may also be defined. All of this has significant benefit, in that remediation chemicals can be injected accurately into the contaminant plume at the correct depth in the formation. This same practice may also be used as a means of evaluating remediation performance, providing a cost-effective way to monitor the progress of remediation.
