I n t e l l i g e n tleak pinpointingat your fingertipsPalmer leak detection equipment has enjoyed aworld wide reputation for quality, reliability and results ever since we developed our first leak noise correlatorover thirty years ago. Building on this considerable experience and expertise,we are pleased to introduce the next generation of Correlator.MicroCorr Touch represents amajor innovation in correlator technology that sets new levels of performance and introduces advanced features to assist operatorsto get the best possible results in the field.Intuitive User InterfaceMicroCorr Touch can be operated with just a few key presses using a helpfulstep by step menu system that easily guides the user through the correlationprocess. All of the menu screens feature large virtual buttons to enable userswearing gloves to enter data. The unit is equipped with a range of languageoptions and features a convenient USB port to connect it to a personal computerwithout the need for external software. This enables data to be shared quicklyand easily.Full Colour Touch ScreenMicroCorr Touch is the world’s first standalone correlator to feature a highvisibility colour VGA touch screen. This enables data to be entered easily andprovides outstanding graphical display.Ergonomic HandlingMicroCorr Touch has been built to withstand intensive field use with many practical features to aid deployment, charging and data input. In addition to our innovative“in case charging”system (see below) these include building ergonomic grips into each side of the base unit and convenient straps on the back to support the unit whendata is being input. The compact outstations have a magnetic base which allows them to be secured onmetallic street furniture if required. A single push button on eachoutstation activates it and enables the operator to set the transmit power high or low depending on its proximity to the base unit.AllWeather VisibilityMicroCorr Touch displays correlation results andsupportive information in full colour on its largetouch screen. Whilst this greatly improves thequality of data presentation,a full colour on-screendisplay can be difficult to view in bright sunlight. To ensure that the correlator performs well inall weather conditions, we have developed aninnovative High Contrast mode to provide clearervisibility when using MicroCorr Touch in brightsunshine.Without H igh Cont ras t ModeI n n o v a t i v e D e s i g n = E a s y t o U s e I n n o v a t i v e F e a t u r e s = H i g h P e r f o r m a n c eSNR DisplayMicroCorr Touch features a“traffic-light signal”on the main correlation screento indicate confidence in the correlation result. The Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)displays confidence in the indicated leak position, commonly referred to as the“peak”. By measuring the ratio between the leak and the highest backgroundnoise, the unit provides an indication of the quality of the leak noise. A high SNRwill give a strong clearly defined peak which equates to a good correlation.A green light will be displayed next to this result to indicate that confidence ishigh for this correlation. A lower SNR and less well-defined peakwill display anamber light. If the SNR is low, with no clearly defined single peak,a red lightwillshow that confidence is low on this result.Works with HydrophonesMicroCorr Touch has been designed for use with optional hydrophone sensorsthat can be connected to ‘wet’ fittings that allow access to the water column(e.g. hydrants, washouts and meter points). Leak noise travels much greaterdistances through the water column than the pipe wall, particularly on plasticand large diameter pipes. Hydrophones are highly sensitive to low frequencynoise and enable leaks to be located and pinpointed in situations wherestandard accelerometers may not.Improved SensitivityA correlator can only ever be as good as thesensors which detect the leak noise.Without sensitive accelerometers,no amount of processingtechnology will produceresults in difficult correlationsituations. Fortunately, theMicroCorr Touch is equippedwith accelerometers providingnew levels of sensitivity acrossthe widest frequency range. This enables it to perform well intraditionally difficult conditions suchas on plastic and large diameter pipes.Unique AFIS OptimisationMicroCorr Touch features the unique Automated Filtering Intelligence System(AFIS) which automatically applies multiple filter settings to determine thebest possible correlation result every time. Traditionally, correlators providedefault filter settings for different pipematerials and sizes. TheMicroCorrTouchis no exception. However, due to the number of unknown variables that canchange the frequency of leak noise, default filter settings will not beoptimised for every leak. Experienced users can manually change the filtersettings to find the leak, but this is often a time consuming process involvingmultiple correlations. Even then it can be “hit or miss” to locate the leak.AFIS automatically runs 55 different filter combinations on the correlation, checking the quality of the result and optimising filters as required until thebest result is obtained.AFIS works with both live and pre-recorded correlationdata and has been proven to dramatically improve the ability to pinpoint theleak location.TheAFIS optimisation technologybuiltintoMicroCorr Touchmakesmanualfilter setting a thing of the past anddelivers the best possible resultwithout the need for additionalcorrelations.Thismajor innovationeffectively builds an“expert user”into the unit.In Case ChargingMicroCorr Touch is supplied in a compact, purpose designed case. The case not only carries and protects its components, but alsoenables the base station and two outstations to be charged from themains or a vehicle via a single power lead.A display panel inside the charging case enables the operator toview the charging status of each component at the touch of abutton without needing to remove them from the case. Unitscan be stowed with sensors still connected for faster deploymentin the field, meaning that the MicorCorr Touch is always readyfor action. With High Cont ras t ModeHWM-Water LtdTy Coch HouseLlantarnam ParkWayCwmbranNP44 3AW United Kingdom+44 (0) 1633 489479+44 (0) 1633 877857sales@hwm-water.comwww.hwm-water.comHWM reserves the right to change any product specification without prior notice??????For an advanced correlatorthat’s easy to use and delivers the best all round performanceWater Leakage: A Global ProblemEvery day huge volumes of clean, treated water are lost through leakage. Finding leaks in underground systems can be a very expensive and time consuming process. Many leaks disperse into the ground before water reachesthe surface and even when water does become visible above ground it may benowhere near the actual leak. If left undetected, leaks can quickly becomehighly destructive and very costly. Leak Correlation: The Proven SolutionThe leak noise correlator calculates the precise location of the leak by measuringthe time difference at which leak noise is received by sensors deployed at eitherend of the leak. Leak noise travels at a constant velocity (V), which dependson the material and diameter of the pipe. The time difference (Td) between thearrival time of the leak noise at each sensor, combined with the velocity, enablesthe location of the leak to be clearly identified. MicroCorr Touch: A Correlator That Does The Hard Work For You In designing MicroCorr Touch, ease of use has been paramount. We have created a device that combines cutting edge design and innovative technology to deliver outstandingresults with the minimum amount of effort required from the operator. As you would expect from a Palmer correlator, a wide range of additional functions are also availableto assist the operator if required. These include survey, snapshot, compute, zoom and peak suppression modes. A Ma jo r B reakthrough in Leak De te c t ion Te chno logyLeak location is c learly displayedL = D – (V x Td)2
