maximum forceminimum power sourcefrommicrohydraulics icrohydraulics makes it feasible to obtain several tons of force from a minimal power source within a very restricted space envelope. The techniques of micro-hydraulics allow simple easy-to-use solutions to problems that are often at or beyond the limits of traditional mechanical op-tions. Hydro Leduc offers a complete range of micro-pumps which all have proven reliability of operating in extreme work-ing conditions such as temperature, pressure, medium, and en-vironment. Based on the standard range, customized models are also possible, with a choice of: ¦ drive shafts; ¦ inlet and outlet ports; ¦ flanges or threaded connections.M Micro GB int.fm Page 2 Jeudi, 12. janvier 2006 3:44 15 Choose your pumpDisplacements: from 0 to 0.0915cu.in/rev (1.5cc/rev)Pressure: up to 14,500PSI(1000bar) cette moitié de page est àdécouper Micro GB int.fm Page 3 Jeudi, 12. janvier 2006 3:44 15 All types of inlet and outlet ports... even the one you need. cette moitié de page est àdécouper Micro GB int.fm Page 4 Jeudi, 12. janvier 2006 3:44 15 Different shaft ends... and yours. Micro GB int.fm Page 5 Jeudi, 12. janvier 2006 3:44 15 Microhydraulics, the applications are virtually unlimited. Leduc micro-hydraulics offer a complete and original design wherever considerable force is required within a small space envelope with very limited power available.Examples of particularly demanding applica-tions already mastered include: ¦ providing 13tonnes of crimping force for a handtool barely larger than a cordless drill; ¦ ensuring the operational reliability of oiltools for exploration and measurement while drill-ing, where the entire hydraulics envelope may fit into a housing of no more than 1.18 to 1.57in (30 to 40mm) in diameter, function dur-ing severe shock and vibration or in a corro-sive environment; ¦ allowing oceanographic research drifters, deployed throughout the world’s oceans, to resurface regularly, and above all with total reliability; ¦ guaranteeing the efficiency of guidance sys-tems installed on the most modern fighter air-craft.The wide range of high technology industries concerned all require extensive know-how, and each new application tends to push through the limits of previous technologySuch is Hydro Leduc’s ongoing innovation challenge. Complete solutions Hydro Leduc offers custom designed hydrau-lic power packs. Apart from the pump that is the heart of HL’s activity, our design team also has extensive knowledge and experience in-corporating a pump, electric motor, valving, tank, pressure limiter, and those components which make up the pump’s environment. Packages to suit the most diverse specifica-tions can thus be developed. An effective part-nership with an experienced team will guarantee the satisfaction of your technical re-quirement. The micro-pump… ¦ axial piston type Developed and manufactured since 1970, Le-duc axial piston micro-pumps offer pressure output up to 14500PSI (1000bar).Fixed and variable displacement models exist in displacements from just a few cubic milli-metres per revolution to 0.0915cu.in/rev (1.5cc) and are suitable for operating at tem-peratures between 122°F and + 392°F (-50°C and + 200°C).This axial piston design is particularly well suit-ed to applications where diameter is critical. ¦ transfer pump Corrosive fluids or fluids with very low viscos-ities are a problem in terms of the service life. Hydro Leduc has come up with a particularly innovative solution to this problem: the trans-fer pump. This recently patented technology involves separating the fluid to be conveyed from the fluid that actually transfers the pumping ener-gy.The friction parts operate in a good lubricating fluid, whereas the parts which pump the fluid to be conveyed are subject to no friction. This new and major innovation makes it possible to use seawater, for example, as the operating fluid for marine applications. The transfer pump has been developed for displacements up to 0.061in (1cm 3 ) and for operation at pressures up to 4350PSI (300bar). Microhydraulics, the applications are virtually unlimited. Hydro Leduc also offers a complete range of hydrau-lic components and indus-trial pumps, see page 22. This protective fluid is of AIR1506/MIL-H-6083 type and is compatible and mixible in all propor-tions with typical hydraulic fluids used of AIR3520/MIL-H-5606 type. Before installing the micro-pump, simply empty the storage fluid, no rinsing required, then fill with your usual hydraulic fluid (chosen in line with our recommendations).Direction of rotationMost LEDUC micro-pumps are manufactured for a given direction of rotation (see table on page 9).¦ CW: clockwise¦ CCW: counter clockwiseFor those models made in one direction of rotation only, it is possible, on request, to produce the same pump for the other direction of rotation.Installation positionsFluidsMicro-hydraulic pumps and motors are generally used with mineral-based hydraulic fluids. However, new fluids such as synthetic oils, biolog-ical and biodegradable fluids and fluids with some water content, are also compatible with most LE-DUC pumps and motors.Fluid should always be chosen within the recom-mended viscosity range.Cleanliness of fluid is critical to guarantee that pump and motor run correctly. HL recommends, for its micro-pumps to work in optimal conditions, to use a fluid to class 6. However, the pumps are capable of working well with fluids up to class 8 or 9. Please consult our Technical Department with details of your fluid and application, for our opinion and advice. For all special applications, please consult our Technical Department and, to enable us to assist you in your choice, advise:¦ range of rotating speeds pump is to run at ;¦ viscosity range of fluid, as a function of extreme operating temperatures;¦ supply conditions;¦ type of fluid and compatibility with main types of elastomers, steels and copper metals.Drive modesThe drive mode to couple pump to motor should respect the following basic rules:¦ avoid producing any axial load on the pump shaft;¦ if possible, avoid any radial load.A direct drive is always the best solution. All micro-hydraulic pumps and units are tested in-dividually on specific test benches. Before ship-ping your pump, Hydro Leduc takes every precaution to guarantee the performance in terms of flow, pressure and speed. However, once in your application, guaranteeing performance de-pends on how well the following guidelines are ad-hered to: FiltrationThe cleanliness of the fluid is vital for hydraulic pump and motor to run satisfactorily. LEDUC pumps can be supplied fitted with a 40microns protective screen which avoids start-up accidents in cases where a contaminant (end of thread, tiny piece of hosing, flakes of paint etc.) might detach itself in the pump supply circuit. The fluid return line should, if possible, include a 3 to 10micron fil-ter.Supply lineSupply line should ensure as direct a connection as possible in order to limit pressure drop, and should avoid any high points.Installation precautionsCarefully rinse the tank and all pipes and hoses to remove any contaminants that could damage the pump.Preparing to start-upThe housing should be filled and bled with the pump at rest.¦ Horizontal installation, submerged (figs.1 and 2)Turn one of the inlet holes towards the top and bleeding will occur naturally. After filling, wait sev-eral minutes before starting the pump.¦ Vertical installation, submerged (fig. 3)The pump can be fitted with a self-priming device, in which case bleeding occurs naturally.¦ Horizontal installation, tank above the pump (fig. 4)The pump will bleed itself in about 1minute. Turn the pump shaft very slowly, by switching the motor ON-OFF for example. Let the air-fluid mixture run out until there is no air left in.NOTE: Start-up should always be done with no pressure drop on output.Start-upSwitch the motor on and check that flow is con-stant and regular. If it is not, drain the pump again. After several hours of operation, it is essential to check the tightening of the pump and all connec-tors.MaintenanceLEDUC pumps do not require any particular main-tenance and are designed to ensure long service life. However, the fluid in the circuit should be changed every 500 to 1000hours depending on the quality of the fluid and its cleanliness.Installation Start-up,Maintenance21Considering the specificity of these pumps, please contact our technical department to check your project feasibilityMicro GB int.fm Page 21 Jeudi, 12. janvier 2006 3:44 1520010050 3500010203040506070(m.daN)300 (bar)TorquePressureX 35 X 50X 65X 80X 110Hydraulics, our center of expertise.Hydro Leduc is committed to build-ing on over 40 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of hydraulic components to satisfy customer needs with reliable prod-ucts from a reliable source. On a single site in North-east-ern France, the company’s dedi-cated R & D, Production, Quality, Sales & Marketing and Customer Service Departments work together to interpret market requirements, develop innovative solutions and produce cost-effective compo-nents to suit.
