Page 1 Solids Out of Solution Powered by Single Step Extraction technology Process and Equipment Description Function OriginOil’s Solids Out of Solution™ (SOS) system is a continuous process to efficiently remove oils, suspended solids, insoluble organics and bacteria from produced or ‘frac flowback’ water. Testing has shown that OriginOil’s SOS system reduces Total Organic Carbon (TOC) by over 98% in the matter of minutes. OriginOil’s SOS system consists of three integrated modules: - Single Step Extraction™ (SSE) tubular reactors, designed to break the emulsion and extract solids from the water phase. - OriginOil’s proprietary gas flotation concentrator specifically designed for hydrocarbon separation. - A sludge hopper with pump and a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. - (Optional) additional effluent treatments to improve clarity. Deployment OriginOil’s SOS can be used as a standalone system for the separation of organics from produced or frac flowback water, enabling clients to reuse their process water for further fracturing or drilling fluids operations. Reusing the water significantly reduces trucking and disposal costs. Coupled with equipment from OriginOil process partners, SOS can be the first stage of a multi-stage system to achieve Class B or releasable (ground) water. Benefits By integrating the functional modules of the OriginOil SOS system into a single piece of equipment, clients can simplify their operation, lower capital cost and reduce their operational footprint. ? SOS requires minimal energy and is chemical free, thereby lowering operational costs and simplifying downstream water recycling issues. ? SOS is an inline system with continuous operation capability. ? SOS operates without pre-filtering in most cases. It may also expedite the settling of heavy particulates. © 2012 All World Rights Reserved. Patents Pending. Page 2 Process Description OriginOil’s SOS makes use of the proven technology and performance of OriginOil Single Step Extraction systems for algae dewatering and cell rupture which have been in the field since 2010. Systems with aggregate capacity of 150 GPM have been built and are now being deployed at a large-scale algae test site in Australia. Step One: Extraction The OriginOil SSE process at the core of SOS utilizes a unique electrolysis configuration with electromagnetic pulses controlled by algorithms developed to optimize efficiency. The electromagnetic pulses neutralize the repulsive charges of the particles within water, break emulsions and promote electrocoagulation of the organics suspended or in solution in the water. Step Two: Concentration The gas flotation chamber generates micro bubbles to lift organics material to the surface of the water. The mechanical design of the concentrator allows heavy material to fall to the bottom to be removed, while the hydrocarbons and other organics are raked from the surface with minimal water loss. They can then be sent to filtration and/or centrifugation systems which will now operate with high cost-effectiveness. © 2012 All World Rights Reserved. Patents Pending. Page 3 Process Control The SSE Reactors and gas flotation concentrator are controlled through a SCADA using algorithms developed for its particular configuration and the produced water being processed. The SCADA is able to monitor specific water parameters and make real-time adjustments to control the electromagnetic pulse characteristics for maximum efficiency and minimum energy usage. Key Features ? Over a 98% reduction in Total Organic Carbon (TOC) ? Eliminates color (PtCo CU) by 99.8% ? Removal of heavy materials ? Breaks oil/water emulsion ? Designed for unattended operation ? Continuous inline treatment ? Proven scalable Configurations Now shipping, SOS Model 60K is designed to process produced or frac flowback water at a continuous flow rate of 1 barrel per minute or 60,000 gallons/day in continuous operation. Model 60K is designed to be mounted in a container, on a trailer or as a fixed configuration. All systems are fitted with connections for produced water input, hydrocarbon product output and external power connection. Unless the system is integrated into an OEM end to end treatment system, client must supply all external pumps, piping, fittings and power external to the system. A Model 300K is being designed to handle up to 5 barrels per minute, or 300,000 gallons/day. Function Process Control
