The story of Stafsjö begins already in 1666 when Gerdt Störning founded Stafsjö Bruk. It started with manufacturing of cannons, which lasted for almost 200 years. In 1928 the first knife gate valves were introduced and manfuctured by Stafsjö. This is the legacy and technology we will continue to push and bring into next century.

1666
Signed by Karl XI on 10 November 1666, Gerdt Störning recieve royal letter of privilege with right to install a blast furnace.

1683
Stafsjö were granted to install a second blast furnace. Already during the 1680s Stafsjö supplied yearly around 70 cannons, from 24 pounds to 3 pounds. Ammunition was also manufactured to some extent

1703
Export of 54 pcs. 24 pounds cannons to Lisbon, Portugal.

1719
Stafsjö have suffered from severe fires several times. In 1719, the Russians ravaged the Swedish east coast and attacked the mill on July 30 the same year. All buildings were set on fire except one, the Russian kitchen, which still today is standing and is privately owned.

1748
20 pcs. ”Mörsare” (Mortar cannons) were supplied to Swedish East India Company.

1859
The last cannons were manufactured. After an initial crisis, Stafsjö began its journey to develop products to support the Swedish industrialization.

1881
The valve production started at Stafsjö - with gate valves.

1896
The blast furnace were used for the last time and was then replaced with a cupola furnace.

1900
A signal cannon were manufactured for the world expo in Paris. At the Stafsjö Bruks Museum you're able to obtain your own miniature Stafsjö cannon in cast iron.

1914
In the Stafsjö Bruks Museum, which is located right next door to todays’ office building, there is a well-made model of the Stafsjö Bruk in year 1914.

1928
Introduction of the first knife gate valve, the "Massaventil" (Pulp stock valve), engineered by Mr. Canell.

1952
Inauguration party of the new workshop.

1968
Introduction of the through-going H2G knife gate valve for high pulp consistency applications. Today, it is named HG. In fact, this through-going knife gate technique were introduced earlier but at that time actuator were located on opposite side the valve body.

1981
End of the Stafsjö foundry. Stafsjö closed the cupola furnace.

1989
Up to this date, this HG DN 1200 was the largest valve ever made at Stafsjö, destined to isolate a 60 m high pulp tower at Procter & Gamble Cellulose Co mill in Georgia USA. Today, several of this size and larger are manufactured at Stafsjö on a yearly basis.

Introduction of the RKO knife gate valve with a round bore and square outlet for severe junc trap services

2002
Introduction of the chemical resistant and bi-directional XV knife gate valve and the fully lugged BV knife gate valve for water and wastewater applications. Its successors become the WB14 range.

2002
The double gate D2G knife valve were developed for special applications requiring quick stroking actions, often installed on contaminated media and reject handling.

2005
Family Bröer acquire Stafsjö Bruk from Beijer Alma Group

2006
Introduction of the WB knife gate valve range for waste water applications and biomass services.

2007
Stafsjö introduce a complete Junc Trap solution for tough abrasive reject separation, primarily for HD cleaners in recycled fiber lines.

Stafsjö invest in a new multi-operations machine type Uniport 6000 to ensure quality and an efficient manufacturing of knife gate valves up to DN 1600 (64”).

2009
Introduction of the SLV and SLF slurry knife gate valves for abrasive and demanding mineral processing applications.

2012
Introduction of high pressure range: the through-going HX and push-through slurry valves SLH and SLX

2016
Introduction of the high performance WB14E knife gate valve, offering bi-directional zero leakage shut-off up to 10 bar/150 psi up to DN 600 (24”).

2020
In spite of difficulties with Covid-19 Stafsjö manage to maintain a steady on time delivery performance, landing on 97% on average for the full year. We were also honored with a record turn over.

2021
The good trend from 2020 continued in 2021 despite continued challenges with Covid-19. 22 700 knife gate valves left Stafsjö to be commissioned in process industries all over the world, of which about 9 % stayed in Sweden.

2022
During the autumn we supplied the first DN 800/32” SLF slurry knife gate valves with 550 mm double-acting pneumatic cylinders with manual bevel gear override. These valves were part of a project supply with destination to a large copper concentrator plant in South America.
