The use of polymers as dispersants in cooling water and traceable scale inhibitors for oil and gas require methods to measure the free polymer in the system. Measurement of the dose level for total polymer does not provide sufficient information on what is free for prevention of corrosion or fouling. Much of the total polymer may already be bound by contaminant particles and scale.
