The valve can be installed in any position horizontal , vertical or inclined, to meet assembly requirements. As a general rule , the drive shaft should be installed in horizontal position. When assembled on horizontal or inclined lines, it should moreover be located in the upper part. It is important to maintain the correct distance between the counterflanges and to ensure perfect alignment and parallelism. Incorrect positioning of the counterflanges would cause deformations in the valve body and lead to control problems. The motor should be turned on and its turning direction verified before starting the valve. To do so, the valve should be set by hand in an intermediate position, that is, about half-way between fully open and fully closed. Then, by repeatedly pressing the close switch, the handwheel should turn to the right. If the handwheel turns in the opposite direction, the connection of two phases of the motor must be reversed to leave it ready for normal operation. A wiring diagram and an instruction book on the actuator are supplied with the valves. DRIVE MANUAL BY HANDWHEEL AND GEAR This system consists of a worm-gear mechanism or of a spindle, nut-rod assembly, depending on the size of the valve. The valve is closed by turning the handwheel to the right. The degree of aperture of the valve is shown by an indicator on the cover-casing of the reducer. PNEUMATIC There are two types of pneumatic drive systems: 1. Conventional cylinder on a rod attached to the valve shaft. 2. Compact or rotary cylinder, whose revolving spindle acts directly on the valve shaft. These drive systems operate on an air supply under a pressure of 6 kg /cm2 By request, drive systems can be provided to meet specific process requirements ( single-acting, aperture, hydraulic, with handwheel or emergency lever and other configurations). MOTORIZED This system comprises a motor-reducer unit specially designed for valve drives. It features a supplementary manual emergency drive that can be operates after disengaging the motor. It is equipped with two limit switches for the operating field of the actuator and a torque limiter for both directions of rotation to ensure perfect seting and protect the actuator against overload. MAINTENANCE These parts of the M P Butterfly Valve are subject to maintenance: SEAT Inspect the seats every 6 months. If any damage or sealing defect is found, replace the gaskets or washers. BEARINGS The self-lubricating bearings are maintenance-free although their correct operation should be verified yearly. The dry bearings should be lubricated in their lubrication points every 3 months on the average. PACKING It is recommendable to replace the packing yearly. DRIVE See the attached manual. The periodicity given for the above maintenance operations is based on standard operating conditions ( of pressure, temperature, number of actuations and so on). The intervals should be reduced under extreme or heavy-duty conditions). PNEUMATIC DRIVE SYSTEM MAINTENANCE The only maintenance operation requires for the pneumatic drive system is the replacement of the gaskets, whose duration depends exclusively on the conditions of the drive fluid. This fluid (normally air) must be properly dried and filtered. Correct lubrication is provided by the use of “PARKOLUB” GREASE. If the cylinder seal and piston are replaced, “PARKOLUB” should be applied. DIFERENTIAL PRESSURE SETTING OF PNEUMATIC DRIVE SYSTEM The MP butterfly Valve is opened by a double acting pneumatic cylinder that is designed to operate when the differential pressure drops to 0.1 bar. This occurs when the cylinder supply is of 4 kg/cm2. To ensure an exact pressure setting, the valve is equipped with a screw adjustable lever arm. INSTRUCCTIONS FOR CHANGE THE SIDE OF THE ACTUATOR 1. Make the depressurisation of the valve and pneumatic cylinder. Extract the valve and remove the electrical and pneumatic connections. 2. Release the packing gland (30) and the graphite packing, the support (65), the cylinder support (27), and the protections (79). 3. Release the cover (24) and the union between the shaft of the valve and the pneumatic cylinder (39). 4. Extract the shaft, take care with the disc of the valve for non damage the seat when the disc drops. Then introduce the shaft for the opposite side. Put the cover (24). 5. Install the accessories for control and air alimentation of pneumatic cylinder, in the opposite side of the support of the cylinder (27). M P . 1 0 / 0 8 C.M.O. 6. Join the support (65) over the shaft with the valve, and then the support of cylinder (27) with support. 7. Replace the packing and put the packing gland and join the cylinder with the valve´s shaft. 8. Reconnect the electric and pneumatic alimentation of the cylinder. 9. Verify the correct functioning of the valve and reinstall it.
